PNEK MEKS here. How’s everyone doing? Another little tail about to be spun. This one is yet another one shot. It’s all about a gryphon. Yep....that’s right. A gryphon. I hope you enjoy it.

The Gryphon’s Day

By: PNEK MEKS

The last hours of night hung over the landscape like a cloth over a birdcage. Then, in the east, a beautiful red and orange sun peeked over the blue ocean as the sky changed from a starry black mass to what looked like flames doing their morning dance across the sea. The sun moved higher into the sky and started to turn yellow as it’s rays moved forward over the landscape. Soon, they began their dance on the ledge which stuck out from a dark cave on the western red mountains. They made their way into the back, dancing on gold coins that were scattered here and there. They finally danced on the eyes and beak of the owner of the cave. She opened her eyes and lifted her feathery head up high and yawned, clicking her beak. She lowered her head and preened her crest feathers. Then, in all her glory, she stood to full height flapping her magnificent wings and stretching her long lion like legs as she stared all around her collection of gold, jewels, shields, and swords. She looked at her reflection in one of the shields, forever content with who she was, the Great Albino Gryphon.

She made her way out onto the ledge and perched herself right on the edge as she stared in pride at the beautiful landscape that she had clamed as her own. From the Blue Sea in the east to the Red mountains in the west and from the mighty Orange Desert in the south to the cold White Mountains in the north. It was all for her. And she knew every bit of it. She smiled to herself just thinking about it as she flicked her feather tipped tail about around her. Oh the riches of the forest that were her own. The babbling streams with their delicious scaly fish. The forests with their succulent deer and plump rabbit. And of course the mountains, oh those beautiful mountains, filled to the brim with their magnificent multicolored songbirds. Oh how she loved her home and all it’s riches. She smiled again looking up at the puffy white clouds. She giggled to herself and then an icy blast of cold wind shot past her making her feathers stand on end. It was her reminder that the most beautiful time of the year was closing in on her, winter. When the trees and everything else, except for the desert, would be as white as her.

She got closer to the edge and flapped her wings hard waiting for a strong wind to wash by her. There it was! In a flash, she threw herself into the wind, wings beating, heart pounding, as she soared higher and higher into the clouds. She turned and glided above them happy to be alive. She stayed there awhile, flapping her wings when needed, thinking and dreaming of winter. Ah, winter, the best time of year for her. The winds would be stronger making it easier to glide for miles with out beating a wing. She would have fun sneaking up on the dragons and unicorns and scaring them out of their wits. Oh what fun! She couldn’t wait!

She folded her wings slightly as she descended towards the ground. Then, with a snap of her wings, she swooped back up and glided just above the tops of the trees. She twisted and turned, dancing on the tree tops like a ballerina on a stage. Then, she leaped. flying off towards the Blue Ocean. As she flew over the sun speckled water, she watched the dolphins leap, one after the other, out of the water doing flips in the air. She giggled to herself and swooped down dipping the tips of her wings into the crystal clear water. She felt so good, so free, and so happy as she stared at her reflection in the water. Then, with a spin, she took back off towards the forest, waving good bye to the dolphins with a flick of her feathered tipped tail.

She turned and twisted her way through the silver barked trees with their blue-green leaves and beautiful purple mushrooms growing along the base. She came to a large clearing with low shrubs growing all the way around the edges except for a break in it which was meant as the entrance. She slowly walked in as the fragrance of flowers filled the air. The whole clearing was filled with the wonderful colors and smells of, at least, 55 varieties of flowers. A huge tree of crystal, literally crystal, stood in the middle of the clearing and laying down underneath it was a beautiful white unicorn with a silver mane and tail and sparkling gold horn and hooves.

The unicorn rose to her feet and bowed her head, her majestic horn touching the grass with its tip.

“Hello Lady Shorann,” the unicorn spoke in a voice that sounded like wind chimes, “What brings you here today?” Shorann smiled and sat down folding her wings and wrapping her tail around her feet like a cat or royalty.

“I came to say hello to you Lightfoot. How are things today?” She said to the unicorn.

“Oh, just lovely,” answered Lightfoot. The two sat and chatted about things of old and things of new, things of fact and fiction.

Soon, the call of the mystical wolf songs rang over the forest and soon to the ears of the two chatting. Shorann looked to the sky to see that the moon was out in full glory and stars were slowly speckling the sky. She rose and smiled to her good friend. Then, with hard beats and a yawn, she took back off into the night sky. She flew slowly back watching the beautiful stars and meteors that moved across the sky. She finally landed on the ledge of her home and walked into the back of her dark cave to sleep on her bed of gold and jewels. It was time once again to sleep away the night with dreams of life dancing through her head waiting for the morning so the sun could rise again.

There you have it! Another one shot bye yours truly! By the way. I’m still searching for a co-writer for my sequel to The Wolf Force: Battle in Japan. You need to be a half decent writer, know something about the army. If you know anything about the mafia that would be a plus. And you need to have an extensive imagination. Okay? E-mail me if your interested.
