'Today will be a great day,'
She told herself, and she smiled
'Days like these only come
Once in a great while.'
But tomorrow is another day
And as the present fades away
Never forget what you dream
For life is always more than it seems
It was one o'clock
When they called her over the PA
She was joyful until she heard
What they had to say
'Your father called,' said the principal
Setting down his cup
'He said your mother's in the hospital
And then he hung up
'He'll be here shortly,
On your mother's request.
She says it's only
For the best.'
The girl laughed a little to herself.
'It's definitely nothing bad.
She probably just sprained an ankle.
Silly Mom and Dad.'
The laughter that came from her mouth,
One would believe was lighthearted.
But down inside, it was dry and cold,
Disbelieving of what had started.
But tomorrow is another day.
And as the present fades away,
Never forget what you dream,
For life is always more than it seems.
She arrived at the hospital an hour later,
Driving with her dad and brother.
When she got to the right room,
Motionless in bed was her mother.
People were crying all around,
Tears streaming down their faces.
Words had left them long ago,
Replaced with only empty spaces.
The girl gazed around at her broken family,
And looked down at the bed.
Her mother smiled up at her,
And these words she said,
'Do not cry for me, my family.
I am off to better places.
I will never forget what it was like,
To see each and every one of your faces.'
'Tomorrow is another day.
And as the present fades away,
Never forget what you dream,
For life is always more than it seems.'
Her mother's life ended right then and there.
She will never be the same.
But in her heart she saves a place,
For her cherished one's name.
Treasure every moment you have,
Remember each one that has passed.
Live each day to its fullest,
Because one will be your last.
And tomorrow is another day.
And as the present fades away,
Never forget what you dream,
For life is always more than it seems
