Chapter 12: Touch the Sky

It was 9 am which was no longer early for Amber. She had grown accustomed to waking at 7:30 am. It was Thursday and Alex had promised to meet her outside. So she found herself sitting on the cool concrete front steps of the main entrance. When Alex arrived he pulled her into a kiss before taking her hand to lead her somewhere.

“Where are you taking me?” Her curiosity was getting the best of her and she was starting to sound like a little kid.

“You’ll see.” He teased. Soon they were at the front gate. Before she could go anything he scooped her up over his shoulder. A car pulled up and the back door opened. He tossed her in before getting in himself. Amber found herself squished between her brother and Alex. Phoenix was in the front seat pointing a bright orange water gun at her. They all had pantyhose on their heads.

“This is a kidnapping.” Phoenix pronounced dramatically spraying her with the water as they sped off.

“You guys are insane!” Laughter bubbled out of her. She felt alive again.

“Relax, you just have to sign these release forms and you are a free bird again.” Krystal handed her the folded papers from the driver seat.

“So, where are we going?”

“Sound check. We have a show tonight and you are going to be playing.” Phoenix told her as if there was no questioning it.

“I haven’t practiced in months.”

“That’s why we’re having sound check at 9 Am. So you can brush up and learn our single.”

“Okay.”
