White Church

By EruDaughter

Written while walking hone from work passed South Church.  Unknown to me that was the same day they voted to become an “Open and Affirming” Church.  A lament.

White Church

                        Oh White Church, standing tall,

                                    with lights on the steeple,

                                    a light for the people,

                        I watch you fall.

Where is the Warrior-Bride?

Why does the enemy she stand beside?

Or sitting silent in the throng,

Can’t she see what’s going on?

                        Oh, White Church, sleeping still,

Are you deaf as well as blind?

Will you join the battle on the hill?

Or sleep with the rest of your kind?

Where is the Warrior-Bride?

Why does she dance with BrokenRainbow?

Bowing out of fright, turned by political stride,

I see her laid low.

                        Oh, White Church, standing tall,

                                    I watch you fall,

You, a light for the people,
but darkness pours from your steeple.

                                                I watch you fall
