A Night on the Town
By Gina
"Bella, come on, we're going to be late!" Rob yelled down the hall, slinging his jacket over his shoulders. He ran his fingers through his hair, and glanced in the mirror, satisfied with his look. He heard Bella murmur something through the bathroom door, but didn't bother asking her to repeat it. She stepped out a few minutes later, and he gave a whistle of appreciation. She gave him a reprimanding look, but her blush showed she was flattered.
"You don't look too shabby either," she murmured as she let him help her put her coat on. As they stepped out onto the street, she pulled the leather fabric closer around her body, and glanced up at their apartment windows, wishing she'd grabbed her scarf. Rob saw her gazing longingly and knew what she was thinking, so he wrapped his arm around her as they walked down the street, her heels clicking on the pavement.
"Do you think it's going to snow tonight?" Bella asked as they rounded the corner to the bar. Rob frowned up at the clouds in the sky and nodded.
"Certainly looks like it," he muttered, holding the door for her as they stepped into the already-crowded bar. He checked their coats and they met up with their friends, who were already waiting for them.
"Hey Rob, baby," Jessica cooed, batting her eyelashes at him, pointedly ignoring Bella. Rob smiled faintly at the blonde bombshell throwing herself at him, and stepped closer to Bella, who was currently glaring at the other girl.
"Jess honey, go throw yourself at that pole over there, ok?" Bella said with a sickeningly sweet voice. Jessica looked over her shoulder and frowned.
"Why?" she asked, missing the covered giggles from their friends as they realized she was truly confused.
"Well, you'll probably get more action with that pole than with Rob here," Bella said and smiled broadly as Jess huffed indignantly and walked over to another group of people. Rob kissed Bella and whispered a 'Thank you'. They ordered their drinks and spent the next hour joking and talking with their friends, until the bartender brought another drink to Bella.
"Oh, I didn't order this," she explained and he nodded.
"I know. That guy down there," he pointed to a young, good-looking man with blonde hair and a black shirt, "bought this for you." He put the beer in Bella's hand and smiled. She blushed and looked up at Rob, who just shrugged.
"I don't care. It's one less drink that I have to pay for." That earned him a smack on the arm.
"Well, do you want me to go home with him tonight too? You know, one less evening of exertion for you?" she asked mockingly.
"Sure, but one condition: I get to watch."
"You're incorrigible!" she cried, and they broke into peals of laughter. She glanced over her shoulder at the blonde man and mouthed a 'Thanks'. He looked a little confused so Bella turned around and said,
"I'm going to go talk to him. I'm not sure he knows I'm here with someone," she nudged Rob as she said it. She started to walk over, but she frowned and asked, "What should I do if he's into ménage a trois?" Her answer was a round of laughs and she sighed in mock frustration as she made her way over to the young man.
*Rob kept laughing as Bella sauntered over. He watched out of the corner of his eye as she leaned on the counter and introduced herself, pouting her lips in a very sexy manner. The young man answered politely, but Rob couldn't help feeling like he was suddenly acting very uninterested. How could you not be interested in Bella?
The woman of his thoughts frowned and glanced over at him, before breaking into a grin. She said something a few things to Lance, who grew increasingly annoyed, before telling him one last thing and walking over, trying desperately not to laugh.
"What's so funny?" Rob asked, and Bella shrugged. Annie leaned over and asked,
"So, what's his name? Did you get his number?"
"His name is Lance, and no, I didn't get his number."
"Why not?"
"We have a few major differences in tastes." She said, laughing a little. She handed her drink to Rob and he frowned.
"Are you headed to the bathroom or something?"
"No, actually, you can have my drink."
"What's wrong with it?"
"Nothing. It's just, Lance wanted you to have it." She smirked as Rob looked horribly surprised, and their friends burst out laughing. Rob glanced nervously between the drink in his hand and Lance, who was now smiling in what he probably thought was a sexy manner. Rob grabbed Bella's hand and, with a quick "It's time to go NOW", they were on their way out the door.
Bella struggled to put her coat on and walk, as she was doubling over in laughter. Rob was walking quickly ahead of her, running his hands through his hair and shaking his head.
"I can't believe that guy bought a drink for me!" he yelled, and a few people on the sidewalk turned to look at him. Bella struggled to stop laughing and ran to catch up with him. She grabbed his hand and made him slow down.
"Come on, it was a free drink," she said, laughing when he turned to glare at her.
"I didn't even get to enjoy it," he muttered annoyed, but stopped when Bella wrapped her arms around his neck. She kissed his jaw line and whispered,
"You know you're secretly flattered."
He smiled and pressed a kiss to her temple. "And you know you're secretly disappointed to not have another admirer."
"Between my admirers and yours, I think we're even."
He laughed lightly and leaned down to kiss her, their breaths mingling in the cold air, and their cold noses brushing against each others. He cupped her face in his hands and angled his head to kiss her deeper. She happily responded and after a few moments, they broke apart, breathless. Bella smiled as they hugged each other tightly, pressing their faced against the others neck for warmth.
Rob felt it more than heard Bella laugh lightly and he pulled back to look at her with a questioning look. She held her sleeve up and he saw a white speck on it. After that, more and more began to fall and she spread her arms wide, grinning up to the sky. He smiled and mimicked her, putting his back against hers and his head on her shoulder, as she did the same.
"It's snowing," she whispered, and Rob looked over at her.
"I know, snow baby," he answered and she laughed. "Let's go upstairs and make cocoa. I don't want you to catch a cold."
"You're so cute," Bella said as they walked up the stairs holding hands.
"I know."
A/N: So this is one of the one-shots that I promised I'd get out. I'm so sorry it took so long. I was just enjoying summer too much to be bothered with the computer I guess. Oh, and if you noticed that asterick, it's because I'd started to write a different way to introducing Lance, but switched it. So, for your enjoyment (or something) I included what I had written before. Oh, don't forget to review. Thanks!
*"Hi, I'm Bella," she said, leaning on the bar top. "Thanks for the drink."
He smiled, almost in a patient manner, and said. "I'm Lance. Um, well, you're welcome, but. I hate to be rude, but I actually meant for that drink to be given to that young," he paused and seemed to size her up, "that young man over there."
Bella let out a soft 'Oh' and followed his gaze. She looked up at Rob and glanced back at Lance. Wait, does he mean. no he can't mean. oh my god.
"Wait, wait, you wanted to give this drink to that ridiculously good- looking man over there? The one in the black shirt?"
"Yeah, him."
"With the shaggy brown hair and gorgeous eyes?"
"Yeah," Lance said, growing annoyed. Bella grinned in amusement.
"I'll go tell him right now. But uh, just so you know, that's. that's my boyfriend. I'm sure he'll be incredibly flattered though."
