A man was looking at the dragon from below. From above the dragon looked at him directly, or at least that's how it seemed to him. An eight year old kid pulled his hand as he looked up to him breaking his concentration for a second.
"Are you ok daddy?" said the kid.
The man looked down on the kid and stopped staring at the billboard with a painting of a giant green dragon that was advertising a children's book.
"Yeah, I'm alright Ian don't worry let's keep walking," said the man as he crossed the street with his kid.
The name of the children's book was "Franz the green dragon." The author Max Mathews was making millions from the book and the large number of merchandise inspired by its main character. Kevin was a computer engineer who worked at one of the new skyscrapers that emerged in the booming Caribbean city. He worked all day in front of a computer but today he was out with his son Ian. It was a sunny Saturday morning and they were going to the park.
The huge park overlooked the new city skyline. Hundreds of families gathered that day to celebrate the holiday and enjoy the refreshing Caribbean winter day. Another giant billboard on the apartment building close to the park had another advertisement for "Franz the green dragon," but the dragon was playing baseball as he overlooked the park. Many of Kevin's coworkers were there with their children and as the children played baseball the men were talking about Max Mathews. Most of them were looking up to the billboard as they talked about the eccentric author.
Many of the men from Kevin's company read many of Max Mathews's books. Some of them even had some of the earlier more adult fantasy he used to write. Kevin was talking to one of his coworkers about how the books took him to a more interesting place amidst the monotony of their line of work.
Max lived only a few blocks away from the park. He lived on a mansion by the shore. The park was only two buildings away from Max's house. He was known to walk by on the boardwalk all the time usually very late at night. On one side of the boardwalk there was the park and the buildings and on the other there was a white sandy beach that was usually filled with tourist.
On a rare appearance during the day Max Mathews appeared in the park. Once all the men saw him they all flocked to meet the celebrated author. He makes an attempt to walk away but they all surrounded him in a matter of seconds. After a couple of minutes they heard some screams coming from the beach.
All the children ran towards their fathers once they saw the twelve
foot tall dragon jump all the way from the beach into the center of the
park were they were all flocking around Max.
"I thought I told you to never get out! Go back to the house for God
sakes!" screamed Max at the green dragon.
"I got bored, I wanted to get out," the dragon replied.
"You have to do what I tell you, I made you!" screamed Max as he goes up to the dragon and tries to push him.
"Stop that! You know very well they keep me alive," the dragon replied as he started to get angrier.
"I own you Franz and you know it! Go back before this get any worst," Max said while attempting to push the dragon.
The men were all completely baffled by the beast and the children were petrified behind their parents poking their little eyes to take a look at the fantastic creature. Kevin walked up to the quarrelling pair and pushes Max away from the dragon.
"What the hell are you doing? He's a dangerous beast! He needs to be in captivity," said Max.
"I don't think so," replied Kevin as he pushed Max again away from the green dragon.
"How dare you, I own this beast. He is my creation, he is my green dragon," replied Max as he pushed Kevin and started to walk back towards the dragon.
Kevin grabbed Max and pushed him once again. The angered author tries to punch Kevin but the dragon extends its long tail and knocks him out. Kevin looked back at the dragon and was completely amazed at the creature. He walked towards him and touches his belly. The dragon chuckled and Kevin a suddenly stepped back. He looked up again at the dragon and simply smiled. His son Ian was still petrified behind the crowd. Kevin looked back and called his name.
"Come here don't be scared," said Kevin.
Ian walked out of the crowd towards the dragon. Some of the people in the crowd soon followed him. The dragon moved a step forward and everyone froze. He then chuckled and everyone kept walking towards the green dragon. Ian finally touched the dragon and smiled. They crowd was now amazed and happy at the site of this gentle giant. Right when the dragon was about to say something a military convoy stormed in through the crowd. They started to scream at the crowd and the dragon started to panic. A man that looked like a high ranking military man walked straight to the dragon and shot the peaceful beast in the head. Kevin tried to push some of the military men to see what was going on but they didn't let him.
"Gentlemen, the beast has been tamed, so rest assure the only way you're going to see this creature again is when you buy the new book, isn't that right Mr. Mathews," the high ranking military man said as Max ran up crying towards the bleeding dead dragon.
