Chorus
For I've danced with a dream in the full moon's light,
And the shadows spread all around.
And we loved each other in the full moon's light,
On the cold September ground.
One night just after Mabon Eve,
When the moon was full and white,
I saw a thing you'd not believe--
And wonderous, haunting sight.
Just like a ghost she slipped between
The trunks so tall and old,
Lithe and graceful, tall and lean,
Her breath grey in the cold.
And....
I left the house to follow her;
Not hard it was at all.
She seemed an angel, fair and pure,
Like winter's first snowfall.
When she reached a glade where light shone,
Her step grew light as feather down.
Such dancing I have never known
As the maid's in the white gown.
And....
Suddenly she took my hand,
And led me in her dance,
Until I could just barely stand,
And wearied was my countenance.
She spread her cloak upon the earth
That I might rest a while,
And kept me warm with hearty mirth
And moonshine silvered smiles.
Yes....
And in that night we danced again,
Our bodies coupled so;
We rested for a bit and then,
Her flesh once more did I know.
Peaceful sleep then came to me,
And so to her I thought--
When I woke just my room did I see,
And for her in vain I've sought.
But I've danced with a dream in the full moon's light,
And the shadows spread all around.
And we loved each other in the full moon's light,
On the cold September ground.
