Sadness In the Mirror
Chapter 4: The Bloody Rose

Kurai slowly walked down the hall towards the cell of the newest prisoner the men called him Jason McKay. They said he was the son of the demon slayer Kreed. She wanted to see him for herself. The prison cell was dark and dank. The guard let her in to see him. He was unconscious at the moment chained to the wall. There were cuts all over his body.
“Jason?” she called softly.
“Hun...”
He slowly came to. “Mom?” he asked.
“Jason wake up.”
He came to fully to see that it was a younger version of his mother. The only difference was the color of her eyes. Where his mother's was a blue/green color hers' was a deep brown. Turning his head he looked at the wall opposite her.
“Jason? Why is it you paled when you see me?”
“My mother... is your name Kurai?”
“Yes, but how...”
“Kurai in Japan means Darkness.”
“Jason did you just...”
“Mother told me that my sister wouldn't know the meaning of her name.”
“My father told me that the person that could tell me the meaning of my name is my brother.”
“That's why you look like her. You have our father's eyes.”
“Jason does that mean that Kreed...”
He snorted in disgust. “I take it dad isn't all that he's cracked up to be?”
“He never knew about us. He left her alone, and then she died for him.”
Kurai walked forward and took her brother's face in her hands. Their eyes met and nothing could break that soul searching gaze.
“Degio come in her and take these chains off my brother.”
“Yes Miss. McKay.” (he said in Spanish. I couldn't remember how you put it.)
The guard let him go. Kurai supported his weight. His arm was draped over her shoulder. They stumbled to the door. The guard put Jason's arm over his shoulder to help them along.
“Degio can you bring the first aid kit to the garden.” (in Spanish)
“Yes mama.” he said in Spanish.
“Thank you.”
She helped her brother into the garden. Jason watched closely as Kurai helped him into the indoor garden. Degio brought the kit and left. Kurai began to clean his wounds.
“I'm really sorry Jason.”
“Don't be,” he hissed out. “My mission was for you.”
“Jason... I don't have a home in the states with you. I have a home here.”
“Kurai it isn't safe. There are dangers...”
“I know. I can feel a stirring in my demon blood. There is going to be an uprising soon.”
“Kurai I need my hawk Skye back.”
“You mean her?”
She pointed towards the tree above them. A white spot stood out against the green. Skye perched there watching them. Jason raised his arm to summon the bird to him. She landed there with her own grace.
“Kurai we have to get out of here.”
“Jason I can't.”
“Kurai please. When this settles down then I'll let you come back but we have to go. It's dangerous here they know you're Kreed's daughter as they knew I was his son.”
“Miss. McKay there are intruders on the property. You and Mr. McKay need to get out of here quickly.”
“What intruders Degio?”
“You need to just go Miss. Take care of her.”
Jason painfully got to his feet as Degio handed him his kitana and guns. He had most of his weight against his sisters body as they moved down the hall one step at a time. Skye winged ahead.

Kreed slowly snuck from one shadow to another. It was a useful technique that a friend a long time ago taught him how to do. Demonic aura's were all around him. There was a stranger combination of aura's around the bend. The mix was odd. He slowly unsheathed his blade. These two that had odd energy signatures would be first.
Once he round the corner he came face to face with an angry hawk. It flew past him and circled back to scream in defiance. The white wolf came pounding and the two fought. There was a boy with a girl behind him. He had his arm out to defend her.
“Kurai run,” the boy muttered to the girl.
“But Jason?”
“Get out of here!!”
Jason drew his kitana knowing this wasn't his father due to the white of his hair. Kurai shook her head to show her defiance.
Kreed slowly paced forward to fight.
“Get out of my way kid you're not a demon so you're not my target but that girl is.”
“If you hurt my sister I'll kill you.”
“Then so be it.”
Kreed leapt forward and their blades clashed. The older slayer was able to force Jason in the wall.
“Jason!!” Kurai screamed.
The two fought but Jason was weakening fast.
“Kurai run!!” Jason bit out.
“Oh no you don't.”
Kurai ran but felt something crash into sending her to the ground. Looking over her shoulder Jason was blocking Kreed's onslaught. Kurai managed to wiggle out from under her brother and father and dashed down the hall. Kreed smirked when he saw the daggers on Jason's belt. He ripped one out and threw it at her. His aim was deadly. It landed in her shoulder piercing a lung. She collapsed and began to gasp and choke. After a few struggling breaths she died.
“Kurai?” Jason asked. “Kurai?”
There was no answer. Kreed began to laugh. Jason threw him back and rushed for Kurai. She wasn't breathing and he knew that he couldn't revive her. His head was bent over her body.
“I'm sorry. I failed you.”
He gently laid her down. Standing up he had a look of hard determination on his face. Jason's attention was drawn for a second behind Kreed where a winged wolf now stood. It's eyes were stricken.
“Welcome back mother,” he whispered as he leapt forward to attack. Kreed's once slice was accurate as it was driven into his lung. Jason breathed heavily as he struggled to stay standing with the blood pooling soaking his shirt. He leaned heavily on the wall and slid down.
“I hope your happy Dad,” he bit out. “We're your redemption. I hope... you... you... find your... yourself again...”
Jason's life slipped away. Turning he saw his wolf pace to Jason's side and collapse. Then he heard a startled gasp then sobbing. Sarah and Andy ran past him and tried to rouse the dead pair. It would never work. Sarah turned and lashed out at Kreed.
“I warned you...” she growled. “Their dead... you killed your own family. I can't believe you.”
Suddenly something changed in Sarah. Her voice became more seductive.
“So Kreed you finally shed innocent blood. Well as innocent as your own twins could be.”
“Ebony...” he growled.
He shook his head as if he was dizzy or something. The white was starting to thread with brown.
“So your starting to come to your senses. I guess you'll have to live with the death of your family.”
“Family?” he asked in a dazed tone.
“So Kreed trying to make Nick forget the lives he forged the night he forsaken his God?”
“I didn't forsake him, I love her.”
“Sure you do. Then why is it your bathed in your son and daughter's blood and that fateful night your beloveds?”
The white finally faded to see the truth of her words.
“Oh God...”
The kitana clattered to the ground. He went to his knees.
“Jason.”
“Don't bother,” she snapped. “They're dead, and that wolf was Chris. She died due to heart break. I pity you Nick.”
Nick pitched forward pressing his forehead to the cold stone. Tears finally for once in his life flowed before his friends.
Ebony vanished leaving a tired Sarah behind. She made a call to the CIA to get them and the dead family out of there. It took days for them to finally straighten out the mess that Kreed had made.
The day after that...
The three of them stood beside three graves that day. Once the married pair felt they had paid their respects to the dead they left Nick to himself. The rain began to pour down. Three roses were in his hand. His fist clenched causing the blood to flow. The tainted water was soaked up hungrily but the water starved ground. He placed the two white roses on each of his children's grave and the single red one he placed on Chris's grave.
“I failed you all. I'm so sorry.”
He had completely forgotten about the redemption of his soul. Their blood would be forever on his hands.

The End.
