He who fights with monsters
Must be careful what he does.
He must nurture sure his heart,
Or else loose who he was.
He must kindle his friendships
When his foes he does not seek;
He must behave like normal,
Be he caring, vain, or meek.

He who fights with monsters
Must never use his heart,
Nor his fear, nor his soul,
Or a lower, longer part.
Only logic in his war
Will win for him the prize
Of life in his later years,
And unclouded, happy eyes.

He who fights with monsters
Must never stoop to cheat,
For that is like the monsters,
And if you join, you can't defeat.
You must never listen to them
If a plea they try to say,
For that is how the monsters
Can bind you to their way.

He who fights with monsters
Has a choice that he must make,
For if they do beseech your heart,
What path will you then take?
Mercy is a human's trait,
But if they live, does good prevail?
You cannot know the answer here,
So thus you may just tip the scale.

He who fights with monsters
Must realize all is lost
If you act the way that they do,
Never thinking of the cost.
Yes, never act how monsters do,
For the line to cross is thin,
And he who fights with monsters
Will thus likely never win.
