A fleeting shadow
From the corner of my eye
The coldest shiver
Running up my spine
Like an icy river

Glancing around,
No one’s there,
Save for the voices in my head
Save for an eerie presence
Of a hunger not yet fed

Entering the hallway,
Something is different
The air feels heavy
My footsteps disguised
As the sound of an old Chevy

My second sight open
My second skin lay exposed
And the world may I see
Whilst I search
To find the key

And yet still, someone’s there
Yet, not there, a vapor trail
Myself a basset hound to blood
I taste their energy on the air
But it’s like finding a coin in mud

Back and forth I scan,
People sit up to take notice
This helicopter searchlight
Spinning atop my head
If I must do this, let me search right.

Seeking refuge,
Amongst my barriers
Shields layered like folded steel
And within my space, I’m extended
I must find them, I feel.

Within only a few hours,

Curiosity to obsession

My tactics are passive

Though I’m only gone for a few minutes

I can feel that hunger is getting massive
