They spent all of the next two months together. He took her to all the hot spots in town, then to the zoo (where they threw fish food at the turtle’s heads). Love was the only word to describe what they felt. Jodie was beginning to like her, well she wasn’t being mean anymore, but they weren’t going out for coffee or anything. Of all the girls she liked Suzanne the best, they hung out some nights. That and everyone knew Persephone now, it was Hades’ girl. She got free drinks at most bars, and everybody was really nice to her.

It was two months, on the day, that Hades dragged her to another show with Concrete Jelly. With a beer in her hand she stared up into her boyfriend’s eyes and loved the way he barely had to concentrate to play so well. Then everyone in the band stopped playing, except for Kory on one of his elongated drum solos, Hades stepped up to the microphone. Strangely, it was the same song he did this in as time when he asked her out.

“Persephone, I just want you to know that I love you. I have something to ask you, and I want every one of you bastards to witness this.” Hades dropped to one knee. “Persephone Lee, will you marry me?” He handed her a ring box. Inside was a beautiful diamond ring, on the inside of the band was carved in beautiful Greek words, translated it said I love you Persephone.

She put the ring on her finger, then screamed in to the microphone. “Yes, yes I will. I love you too.” Tears of joy erupted from her eyes and she blew him a kiss as the band went back to finish their show.

It was well after the concert, and the bartenders and waitresses were all cleaning up, about ready to leave. An older lady walked in. She was beautiful in an older kind of way, permed blonde hair, business-casual clothing. The bouncer walked straight up to her about to tell her to leave when she held out her hand to him, he took it gingerly.

“My name is Demeter.”

“Helios,” said the bouncer.

“I’ve been looking for my daughter, she ran away. She always liked things like this,” Demeter turned up her nose at thought the thought of a rock show, “have you seen her?” She handed him a picture, it was Persephone.

“Yeah I know her. This guy Hades always drags her around. He put on quite a show with her tonight.”

She looked like a lightning bolt had hit her. “Will she be around these parts for a while?”

“Yeah, I have a feeling she’ll be here for a very long time…”

She slipped a hundred dollar bill into his hand, making it seem like an innocent gesture by continuing to hold his hand. Then narrowed her eyebrows and nodded her head. “Helios, you just keep this meeting between you and me. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of each other. I’ll be back in a few days, keep an eye out for me.”
