Behind the cloudy veil

The sun is shining,
trying to caress my skin
with soft fingers of warmth.
The sun is shining,
but its smile pearls off
my clouded veil of gloom.
Its warmth collides with mistrust,
hurt feelings, dread, confusion.

I wish the sun could penetrate
past these walls, into my heart,
dissolve these unshed tears of stone,
melt these stifled questions.
I wish the sun would warm again
my lonely life, my frozen soul,
and replace this leaden pain
with the light of love.
