The Victim’s Fault

Hiding in the shadows
of supposed non-existence,
grinning maliciously,
there is a weaver of poison,
slyly knitting together
perversion upon perversion,
seizing on emotions,
twirling insecurities,
twisting around the half truths
to fashion a net of lies:

and this is called
“the victim’s fault”.

Huddled together in pain,
there is a beautiful, gentle spirit,
crushed like a trodden flower.
Child – you were but a child,
frightened and left alone in the dark,
without a help or protection.
None of us can be strong
always, alone on our own,
no big brother was there
to smash the abuser to pieces.

Do not believe
the accuser’s lie.

Safe and loved in the light,
my child, you need to forgive him,
but no, my dearest beloved,
you need not forgive yourself.
Dare to hate, not you, not me,
dare to hate the enemy,
slash his net of subtle lies,
no longer slash yourself.
Turn your red and sullen anger,
turn your fierce and helpless hate
away from your beautiful body,
away from your beautiful soul.

Let these pent-up feelings out
so you can then forgive.

Child – my righteous rage burns,
my bitter tears flow,
I did not want this to happen,
child, I ache with your pain.
But child – I can turn
defeat into victory,
great things will be done,
great blessing will flow,
a purpose is given to you.

Hands that were sullied are clean
and anointed to bring forth healing.

I guess the repetition of “child” in the second-last stanza was inspired by Saviour Machine’s “Child In Silence”.
