If I Could

If I could, then I would climb,
I would climb that mountain high,
As those others before me have tried,
As those others before me have done,
But they failed and are gone.

If I could, then I would grasp,
That star shooting from Orion's bow,
Streaking alone in the darkness,
Its soul rejoicing in rhapsody,
Dancing forever, a god, in eternity.

If I could, then I would polish,
Until it glows, as if on fire,
I would not cut it, but leave it whole,
A natural beauty, left to behold,
A beauty, still left untold.

If I could, then I would thread it,
Upon Oceanus so blue,
To forever grace sweet Gaia,
In beauty, in love, in hope without fear,
Upon that thread of water, clear.

If I could, then I would,
I would do this for you,
Grasp that star, thread it through,
Hang it round your neck, and never
Will it fade, but it will endure forever.

If I could, then I would,
I would do this, for you.
