They both grew into young women who aspired to do something useful with their lives. They had their life experiences both good and bad. They had also fallen in and out of love like most people do. Both of their parents were proud of their young daughters and wished only the best for them. Then came a day where both of their lives would change forever.
It was a gloomy day filled with dark clouds, rain, and some mild fog. Apathia had just arrived at California for a visit. She longed for her old house filled with such wonderful memories. As the rain pounded onto the pavement, she started to lightly jog through the rain to the front steps of her old house. She was about to ring the doorbell but as she reached for it she remembered someone. Veronica. She hadn’t seen her in such a long time. She then decided she must be reunited with her long lost friend. She ran to her car and drove off determined to find her.
She arrived at a small town in Sacramento. Apathia didn’t know Veronica had also moved. Searching for Veronica’s family had been hectic and stressful but she had found them. Apathia was at the front steps of a plain but cozy two story house, she went up rang the doorbell. Veronica’s mother, Mrs. Johnson, answered. Time had not been kind to this once beautiful woman but she still had the same startlingly beautiful eyes that were full of life. They didn’t need to say much. Tears started to well up in both of their eyes.
“Apathia!” said Mrs. Johnson both shocked and overjoyed.
“It’s so good to see you! I’ve missed you so much!” said Apathia.
Eventually, they settled down Apathia was welcomed inside. Veronica’s mother offered Apathia lunch and revealed to her that Veronica was staying at an apartment nearby.
Apathia finally met Veronica and they shared an emotional reunion. Veronica let Apathia stay and be her roommate and their friendship was rebuilt. Apathia learned that Veronica had a boyfriend and that she was thinking of getting serious with him.
After a month, trouble started brewing. Veronica’s boyfriend, Anthony, came over when Veronica wasn’t there. He confessed to Apathia that he had no feelings for Veronica.
“I want you,” he said caressing Apathia.
At first she refused his advances but soon found herself giving in. It wasn’t long before she found herself having feelings for him too.
It continued for another month before Veronica found out. When she did she found them being intimate on her couch. She yelled, screamed, and cursed at them but none of it could fix the situation. Without warning, she pulled out a kitchen knife from a drawer.
Pointing and thrashing it dangerously at them she said, “I knew all along, I just didn’t want to believe it.” Her eyes full of tears now, she quickly wiped them away and ushered them into her car. She was armed and they had no chance against her. After threatening to stab them they complied with Veronica’s request for them to enter the car. Veronica drove them to an empty lot where no one could hear them scream.
