“Oh hello Veronica! Glad you came! We were right in the middle of baking cookies!” said Apathia cheerfully.
“What the hell? I- I killed you guys! Okay maybe I really am crazy.” said Veronica awestruck. She had lost control of her limbs; she couldn’t do anything, even if she wanted to.
“Awe, honey, our darling Veronica is confused,” said Apathia mockingly, “Lets clarify the situation for her. Come on Veronica have a seat you’ve been through a lot tonight and I just want you to be at peace ok?” Silence. “Just to make sure you don’t turn into psycho bitch again, let’s tie you up.
This time Veronica tried to fight them off but to no avail.
“Now that you are calm and ready to listen I will start. You see, I have to make it clear to you that Anthony has no feelings for you. He would have broken up with you if it wasn’t for the enormous amount of pity he had for you fragile being. He —”
“When did he tell you this?” Veronica said with a chuckle, “When you were fucking him?”
Apathia slapped Veronica hard across the face “No interruptions,” said Apathia menacingly. “So anyways, he put up with it and endured pretending to be with you. Until I came along and brightened his life and filled it with such joy.” Apathia leaned in closer to Veronica’s face, “I wonder if you even now how to make a man happy.” She said in a soft whisper, her lips almost touching Veronica’s ear.
Veronica spit in her face.
“Wrong move dear. I could end your life in a second. You were a great friend when you weren’t in my way but now that you are I have to kill you, for the sake of me and Anthony. It’s us or you and unfortunately fate has chosen you.”
Apathia pulled out a gun and matches. Anthony pulled out liquor from a nearby cabinet.
“I may seem sadistic,” said Apathia soothingly, “but you’ll see there is nothing sadistic in my actions. It’s a life or death situation. I don’t want you to kill me and I was always the smart one I’ve outwitted you. I’m sorry to keep you in the dark for such along time so let me explain. The people you killed were not us of course you see they —”
“That would explain why that girl acted like such an idiot,” Veronica said angrily.
“I was counting on you not to interrupt!” Apathia said vehemently. Apathia picked up the gun and shot her in the leg. Veronica screamed tears streamed down her face and she shot Apathia a look of deep hatred.
“That’ll teach you to be quiet from now on. Anyways, what happened was, we knew you would find out so we went ahead and got a lovely couple to crash at your place while Anthony and I went to another. I told them who you were because they wanted to know who lived in the apartment. It was hard persuading them they seemed to think that there was something wrong with the apartment. It was the perfect plan. We paid them to pose as us for awhile. It seems the played out of character tonight which is understandable. Anyways my point is in a nutshell, that tonight’s events proved that we are in danger so you have to die.”
“One question. How did you know about “tonight’s events?” said Veronica still trying to recover from the gun shot wound.
“We were there the whole time,” Apathia replied.
“In between making out we were spying on you. You’re so easy to track down,” Anthony cut in.
Apathia giggled and nudged Anthony affectionately.
“You make me sick!” aid Veronica through her soft sobs, “How could you do this?”
“How could I? You, ask me how could I?” Apathia said with a mixture of astonishment and amusement, “How could you kill two innocent people?” Apathia was growing angrier, “I’m not the bad guy and you are not innocent. You have blood on your hands that will never wash off! The blood of the innocent! Killing you is definitely no sin!”
Veronica continued to sob as Anthony taped her mouth.
Anthony then kissed the tape on her lips and said, “Bye babe.”
“Anthony your wasting time! The show starts at ten!” Apathia said very annoyed.
As Apathia primped up for their date, Anthony handed the matches and liquor to her.
“Fine!” Apathia groaned.
She walked up to Veronica and poured liquor all over her and the carpet. Then she lit a match and dropped it on the floor.
As they walked on they could hear Veronica’s muffled voice getting fainter and fainter. Veronica tried frantically to move but to avail. She managed to knock the chair down and now she could breathe freely, but the fire was still a threat. The fire traveled fast as she tried to get something to untie herself. She couldn’t find a knife or sharp object to cut the rope, it was no use. By the time she reached the door the doorway was consumed with flames. There was nothing she could do. She struggled around the apartment but found no exit. She was trapped.
Apathia and Anthony were still there when it was10:05. They had watched the whole fire. It and reached other apartments but that didn’t matter. The fire hadn’t taken long. The only show they had to go to was this one.
“What a spectacular show,” Apathia said, the fire added a sparkle her eyes.
“Yeah, marvelous. Let’s get out of here. I’m surprised the fire department hasn’t shown up by now,” said Anthony.
They entered Anthony’s car and they drove off into the night.
