Blankets of White Snow
By: Lauren

I let myself fall
Down, down
Cold air rushing past me,
Filling my lungs

A soft thud,
My landing cushioned,
By the layers of white snow
So gentle and cold

My warmth is kept inside
Under bundles of cloth
My breath comes out in foggy clouds
Freezing and floating away

All is tranquil and quiet
Not a stir besides a slight breeze
Snowflakes dance within it
Twisting, turning, plummeting

Each one unique and different
Creating something so much bigger
When they're all put together
A winter wonderland

A tree branch unloads its heavy burden
Piles of snow cascading down
Burying me underneath
Glistening pearly white in the sun

I stand up,
Shaking the snow off of my body
My cheeks are rosy red
And my nose practically frozen

Stomping my boots
I enter my warm house
Already feeling,
Puddles forming beneath me

Damp and cold
I sit in front of our fire
A last remaining snowflake
Melting on my eyelashes

I blink and smile
This cold December atmosphere
Is one of the greatest gifts from God
Soon the snow will disappear

But I know it will be back next year
Constantly there to remind me
To cherish every moment
Before it melts away
