Fleeing from his past, his pain
The death he has seen
Swells his heart
The tears no longer flow...it's been this way too long.
He's angry at everything
So he's enlisting.
To take his frustration out on war.
On a specific enemy, instead of his past.

Would bring any other to a quick suicide.
But he has withheld all of this ache
For far too long.
The girl of his dreams
Melted into a nightmare
And now is just as willing to love any other.
No family, no dependence.
He's self reliant and only 17.

To stare death in the eye
Does he know he is just as vulnerable
As those he watched turn into motionless bodies?
Doesn't he know that there are those who care?
Something he has not been accustomed to,
But it is more than true.
A gun in hand and eyes on a target,
Disciplined so well.
Perspiration and fear pouring from his brow.
But yet smiling.
This is what he envisions.

So that it will be a legal suicide.
