A man, poorly beaten, laid in a cell
The scar's on his back were dripping with blood
His mouth was full of bloodBut he hadn't given up

Even when he was pulled out of his bed
Even when the whip fell
He hadn't given up

He had been beaten till he was black and blue
He was whipped thru and thru
With every stroke he almost fell
But he hadn't given up

Even in the cell where he wept
Even in the cell while he prayed
All he wanted was the pain to go away
But he never gave up

Then, for one last time
His cell opened
Then, for one last time
The guard spit in his face
Then, for one last time he entered
The room with the whip and club
He never gave up.
