Chapter 1
"Get it Adrian!"
"C'mon, you can do it man!"
"You better not mess this up, nerd!"
Seventeen-year-old Adrian Mopolis stood in P.E. class, trembling in his sneakers. He raised the bat and waited for the other team's pitcher to throw the ball. His glasses reflected the light of the gymnasium's bright lighting, making it near impossible for anyone to see his sky blue eyes. His shaggy brown hair slightly obscured his vision.
His fellow team mates were cheering him on, or threatening him. There were two outs, and the bases were loaded, it was up to Adrian to get at least one person home to tie the score, and two to win. The pressure was on, and Adrian didn't work well under pressure. His arms slightly trembled, and he felt as if his knees would give out as the pitcher wound up for the pitch.
Then everything happened in slow motion as the ball flew out of the pitcher's hand, richocheting right at Adrian. The boy watched the ball carefully, and picked the opprotune moment to strike. His bat crashed against the ball, sending it flying up, up , up in the air. Adrian ran, slightly amazed that he actually hit the ball and that his team might actually win this game, or at least tie. He sprinted towards first base, his heart pounding in his head.
"OUT!" Yelled the P.E. teacher loudly. Adrian blinked, and glanced over to see who, or what happened, to cause the last out. A sour look came across his face once he saw that Joe, a very jocky guy, had jumped up and caught his fly ball, making Adrian the last out. "Hit the showers people!" barked the burly P.E. teacher.
The boys and girls trudged to their seperate locker rooms, everyone on Adrian's team a bit crestfallen at the turnout of the game. Adrian lagged behind all the boys, making him the last one in the locker room. He took his time, stripping off his gym clothes and taking a shower. This was his last period of the long, hellish school day so he didn't have to rush to get to any classes.
The brunette was the only one in the showers by the time he stepped in. He turned the crusty knob that turned on the shower nozzle, getting hit with a stream of luke warm water. As he lathered up he started to hum a song, mouthing the words quietly to himself.
"Dreaming about providence and; whether mice and men have second tries. Maybe we've been lying with our eyes half open, maybe we're bent and broken." Adrian silently sang to himself, washing off the soapy suds that he had washed onto his body. Quickly he shut off the shower and walked to the empty locker room, still singing quietly, " We were meant to live for so much more, Have we..... Oh shit, what was the rest?"
"Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside." A smooth, slightly edgy, singing voice replied from behind him. Quickly Adrian spun around, grabbing his boxers in the process and holding them in front of his privates. Luckilly the boy had already put his glasses on while wondering what the rest of that Switchfoot song was, and could clearly see the older boy smirking at him, the one that had responded to his moment of memory loss.
The singing had come from one of the 'badboys' in Adrian's highschool, Jake Neired. Jake had dyed his once spikey blonde hair various colors. Many of Jake's enemies called him queer, saying his hair was rainbow colored. This only made the boy laugh haughtilly and reply, "I'm not gay, I'm bi, and that means anyone's fair game." Then he'd waggle his pierced eyebrows suggestively as a perverted grin pasted itself onto his lips.
His attire was less than surprising, violating a few of the dress codes. His dark blue jeans had various holes in them around his knees, upper thighs, and lower legs. The jeans draped down, swallowing up his feet in their huge bagginess. He was wearing a pair of black silk boxers with red kiss marks on them, Adrian was only able to note this because Jake's jeans were slung across his hips at an angle seeing as they didn't grip onto his hips. Jake's shirt, a tie-dyed black and red shirt, had longer, red sleeves sewn to its sleeves. Around Jake's neck were about five bead necklaces you'd find at festivals, all of various colors.
All in all he looked like a modern, punky, guy version of Pipi Longstockings, well if you had a big imagination. Adrian just stared at him, raising an eyebrow in question wondering what Jake was doing talking to him.
"What do you want?" he asked, suspicious. The only time that he was spoken to was either to be ridiculed or to be asked about something to do with schoolwork.
"Easy, Adri." Jake waved his hand, smiling down at the shorter boy, "Just came to tell ya' I think you did pretty well during the game."
Adrian snorted, replying a bit icily, "You're the only one that thinks so, and my name's Adrian, not Adri. And I hate nicknames, so no, you can't call me 'Adri'."
Jake just laughed cheerilly, walking towards Adrian more. There was a gleam in his eyes that Adrian found suspicious, so he backed up a bit, still holding his pants in front of his waist. The younger boy felt his back come to the biting coldness of a metal locker. Her shivered involuntarilly, but kept glaring at Jake.
"I've been watching you for a bit, Adrian-kun." said Jake, smiling in a predator like way. He was now standing a few inches in front of Adrian. Jake leaned forward, so his hands were against the locker, on either side of Adrian's head. The brunette could feel Jake's body radiating warmth from their close proximity. Immediately, Adrian's emotional barriers were put up, and his face took a stoic look to it.
"What are you? A stalker?" hissed the boy, still holding his clothes in front of him. This made Jake break out into a huge grin. The once-blonde leaned over to Adrian's ear, whispering huskilly, "Perhaps."
