Darkness Outside My Window

by : epiphanies

Emily Burns

Sleek and austere

long-legged

filled with a beauty so transparent

that one can barely stand to lay their eyes upon them

they, who have the blackest eyes

blacker, indeed, than the dead of night.

The dead of night, lovelier than the life of night

heartily involved

quietly suffering

the dead of night is solemn and watchful

constant, like the pearl , the moon

to stand out in such a crowd as the little stars

and the dead of night will indeed stay in her own era

sleek and austere

awake during moonshine and eclipse and star showers

long-legged

beautiful in its own right

So beautiful they are,

the mares of night.
