God is
The most complex
Form of simplicity
I know;

He walks with me
Gently teasing
And twirling around me
With a devious smile;

Or sometimes
Gazing steadily at me, with
Seriouness in his eyes,
Paintings of landscapes and harsh realities,
Depth of mind
And heart
And soul;

Or sometimes
I can feel his subtle presence
In my sisters' thoughts,
My friends' consolations,
My fifteen-pound kitten’s purr
Or the silent breath
Of a single silver star.

He puts the words in my head
The questions in my soul
The life in my mind
And teaches me.

He listens
As I curse at him
And throw the words back in his face
And he continues to listen
Until I apologize.

He shows me how to understand
Impossibility
And carefully tends the seeds of my prayers
Until someone’s life becomes beautiful.

To me,
God is
Who I believe he is,
And religion has nothing to do with it.

My faith is my God,
And my God is with me,
Winking in candleflames,
Written in mosaics,
Remembered by the wind,
And rising in melodies.
