Dana woke up in a forest. She stretched and stood up, rolling her neck she looked up at the beautiful pink sky framed by the golden leaves.
"Holy shit!" Dana stared at the leaves, blinking rapidly. "What was in that chocolate cake?"
Dana sat down on a gray rock, that stuck out over the lake, which was silver...unfortunately. She mentally cursed her father for not believing in cell phones. Dana must have sat there for an hour, at least before she heard a voice.
"Who are you?" the voice was loud and annoyed. "And what are you doing on my rock?"
"I'm Dana Collins," Dana looked around. "Who are you?"
"None of your business. Now get off my rock," the voice seemed to grow nearer but Dana still couldn't see anyone.
"Where are you?" Dana stepped off the rock and looked around.
"I'm over here carrot-top! On the-my rock!"
Dana looked at the rock, the only thing there was a small shimmer, which she disregarded as a light reflection.
"Just fucking come out," Dana put her hands on her hips. "Are you, like, hideously deformed or something?"
"How dare you! I'm beautiful, far more beautiful then you, you, you..."
"Bitch?" Dana supplied.
"Giant, human, mistake!" the voice finished. "I'll show you human!"
Out of nowhere Dana was hit with an acorn. It bounced off her shoulder and rolled into the lake.
"What was that supposed to do?" Dana laughed. "Tickle me?"
As Dana glanced around the shimmer from the rock moved nearer, unnoticed until it stopped about an inch away from Dana. Her eyes crossed as she saw the creature in front of her.
The creature had pale green skin and long black hair, gossamer wings hung from its back, tinted emerald. It, she was wearing a corset made out of what appeared to be flower petals coupled with a skirt out of grass. She, it, was staring intently at Dana; the eyes were flashing sparks.
"Fairy?" Dana whispered before everything went black.
When Dana woke up it was still dark and grumbling she sat up in her bed.
"That was such a weird dream," Dana muttered as she rubbed her eyes.
"Good you're awake," Dana's eyes widened as she tried to see into the darkness.
"Damn, I thought I had woken up!"
"Mortal, you are awake," it was a new voice, different from the fairy, deeper. It reminded Dana of Camille's voice. "Unless humans have evolved so much that they're capable of carrying on conversations in their sleep."
"People do talk in their sleep," Dana commented. "What time is it?"
"We don't have time here freak," it was the voice from the talking bug- human from the lake. "Be kind Rouge, she is obviously a stranger to or lands."
"Where is here," Dana asked, thinking if this was a dream she might as well no where she was.
"You are in Maerd, in the forest f Evolmaerd," it was the ancient and wise voice again. "In response to your time question: we have no time here, not like you are used to, numbering the hours. Our time is in sections. Now is early moon, soon it will be high moon the low moon. In the day we have sunrise, early sun, high sun, low sun, sunset, and dusk."
"How odd," Dana yawned.
"You're tired, got to sleep. We'll talk more when you wake up," the ancient voice was soothing. As Dana drifted off she felt a blanket being slid over her.
"I am asleep," Dana rolled over and fell asleep.
