Remorse

By fabian cortez

Looking back on salad

Days of youth I consider

Aura's terrifying visage

As you fell, grate's corner

Imbedded into you

O' tarnish such pallid

Skin with inner rouge

Image flash a frightening

Record of bloodied beauty

Scorn my remorse to see

Your stricken face raise

Up from a backseat yet

Once reserved for passion

Now explode with screams

Of helplessness soon

Quelled with scent

Of silent mourning

Oh argument so bitter

Made mockery of innocence

Experience untried she

Fell to be unconscious

Yet we feared that she had

Died, dark secrets stained

My soul for I loved her

So; aside her cruel barbs

Her vivacity intoxicated my

Cool nights to brightest

Summer days, now my aging

Bones remember nothing but

Her shrieks of panic & dread

Called out in certain knowledge

Of death

As she looked up at me moments

Before her beautiful car

Became a hearse for her final

Rest I sense her around more

Often now; waiting for

Vengeance, justice of some

Kind as each night I pray for

Peace of death to permit her

Retribution for my crime

I sense my breathing slow to

Slumber & her face fills

My vision

I scream a moment, yet

She raised her hand to hush

Her arm enveloped me in

Tenderness till her

Softest mouth found mine

"I forgave you long ago,

Now you must forgive

Yourself", she whispered,

I felt a love now, I'd denied

Myself so long once more

Till we were engulfed in

Light to the road
