As moonlight fell on city streets
Her voice rose up in song
Flowing through the night
Ancient, soft and light.
A melody forgotten for so long.
And throughout the dark nights haze
She moved in ancient ways
She flowed and moved like water
Though there wasn't one who saw her
For no one quite remembered how to look exactly right.
Cool and calm as any lake,
She left her song within her wake,
And a stillness came up all around,
And listened to each note, each sound,
That left the cavern of her lips,
And the wide arch of her fingertips
The sway and spin of each soft hand
Was watched by all the earth and land.
And as the moonlight fell the more
Another voice did rise.
Flowing through the night,
Arid, new, and bright,
A melody rose up through the skies.
And in the midst of that night,
She spun and twirled about like light,
She was flame and she was fire,
And still her voice rose high and higher.
Reaching to the heavens and cutting through the night
Swift and sure and quick and true,
From her voice life sprang anew,
Within every step she tread
Throughout all not a sound was said,
Save those from her own fiery throat,
As she moved with each bright note
And with each beating of her heart
Her soul did blaze and light the dark
And then the songs they both did meet,
Above those moonshone city streets,
And whirled and moved around each other
And one song sang unto the other.
And ancient verse was joined with new
And the world did sigh and watch the two.
In contemplation of what had come to be
As both songs joined in harmony
Both danced with passion and with grace
And a smile was seen upon each face,
Though none other save the earth and land.
Saw join the cool and fiery hands.
And as the dawn began to break
The music lingered in their wake,
And each did steal a parting glance
At the memory of their dance
And their voices on the rise,
Spreading swiftly through the skies.
For ancient verse did join with new,
And the world did sigh and watch the two.
