Inbetween

It seems if darkness begets light
And as such day gives way to night
Then darkness begets only darkness
Night begets only night

Because even if the day breaks
Even if the sun shall rise
It's only for a little while
It's only a disguise

For when you pit the purest star
Against the dirty city lights
The star will dim and fade away
Into the blackness of the night

The light seems but a mere illusion
A trick upon our weary eyes
For those who come to this conclusion
The truth in darkness lies

But those who live in darkness
And shy away from light
Know darkness only and as such
Are doomed to an eternal night

Yet there are those who seek that light
To give us hope thru dreary days
To cling to throughout darkness deep
For when the light must fade away

And with hope the darkness softens
To soothe and ease our troubled minds
We can rest easy for we know
That soon again the sun will shine

Day waits just ahead of us
To leave the night behind
They work together bringing peace
Forever intertwined

If Darkness begets dawn
And sunset fades to night
Then dark may beget yet more dark
But so shall light beget more light

End
