The beginning and only that.
My face was smeared with blood
A gunshot was heard
Someone fell to the ground with a thud
I kept my group going, urging them not to panic
Rain poured, I swore I felt static
Thunder bellowed above us
Any sign of peace was from a dead dove
Nature wouldn't give us aid
What would it give us anyway?
Everything was damaged
Shattered
Smashed
And ruined
No cover was in sight
Our captors were on our right
A wide, roaring lake was on the other side
With no options I shouted; "Jump!"
Loyalty made them leap and hurtle
Into the cold waters that turned into a dump,
Full of memories and casualties
I hoped that death would embrace me
I thought it would with great certainty
For ammunition whizzed pass me
Scratching my sides
But nothing permeated into me.
Nothing but fear
We broke the surface and crawled into a bank
Collapsed on another for support
And to think.
This was only the beginning.
