The Legendary Thirteen

By M.J. Innes

Note on pronunciation: daemon is pronounced DAY-mon and fjired is pronounced fe-HIR-edPrologue: The Situation of Late

One can barely look at history and not see the influence the group known as the Legendary Thirteen had on its course that is if you knew what you were looking for. Subtle little influences that many people miss, for instance the fall of the Romanov dynasty in Russia was the work the Thirteen. The mad monk Rasputin was a member of the Thirteen, and with the help of other members, the group brought about the Russian Revolution. But we must not get ahead of ourselves must we? Your probably wondering who (or more to the point what) these thirteen beings are? The Legendary Thirteen are comprised five daemons from the two old world countries Africa and Russia, and three more from the ancient country Australia. From Russia came Anastasia, Maria, Tatiana, Alexandra and Rasputin cold killers who left their victims frozen in the snow. Seth, Tut, Osiris, Amun and Cleopatra came from Africa and had their own unique killing methods, and from Australia came Mordacai, Ned and Raven.

Another thing you might be wondering about is what the hell is a daemon? You hear about vampires and werewolves from books and movies, but when faced with a daemon they make werewolves and vampires seem like Sunday school. Like vampires the daemons need living blood to survive, but unlike vampires a daemon can walk in the sunlight. Daemon’s are immortal, and have been around for thousands of years but they do not grow old or change over the years. Daemon’s are very fast, to fast for the human eye, and many can fly. Very much like modern day vampires you hear so much about. Not many humans know about the daemons, let alone their influence on history. Even the governments of all the major superpowers never knew of the meddling that went on when the daemons decided to change things.

By a strange turn of the fates the Thirteen played lackey to a group of ‘lesser’ daemons. Initially created by mistake by Cleopatra the leader of this ‘coven’ (as he called it) was the culmination of another thirteen daemons he created. These other daemons could be killed by the heat of fire, due to the infusion of pure daemon blood and human blood. During the first hours of his existence this renegade daemon created the first of the fjired, the flesh eating creatures who hate the daemons with a vengeance. Like the daemon’s in so many ways the fjired mostly feed on human flesh, competing with the daemon for blood. The war between the daemon and the fjired began in the 1400’s when Helios the renegade formed his coven taking control of the Legendary Thirteen believing they were young fledglings.

That is the way it has been since ancient Egypt and the pharaohs: the Thirteen have meddled in human affairs changing things to help the very creatures they mostly fed on progress into the future, the renegade Helios has been gathering more followers for his coven to battle the fjired led by Rorbastus, and the human race has noticed nothing of this hidden world…

Until now that is…
