Going Back

Drag me up and make me see
The light of your heart that shines through to me
Show me the truth, show me the way
You open me up, try to make me stay

But you can’t help me and you can’t see
How hard it is to just be me.
Rejection and pain are all I feel
Let me go and I’ll make you a deal

To let you in whenever you please
Just don’t leave me open, or I think I’ll freeze
I’d rather be deaf, for the lies never stop
It’s time for you to just let me drop.

My silence has pained me and now I see
A love for you could simply never be
So far from me soul yet so close to the heart
So many things to say, but where to start?

Back I go, pulling away once more
To tend to the heart that you accidentally tore.
It’s my own fault; I’ve too many scars
I never let it go past the bars

You didn’t know, I didn’t want you to
The truth would only hurt and confuse you
Retreating once more I sit alone
And let you see me as simply a drone.
