It is May of 2004, a dark but calm night. The moon shines from under a few clouds. It isn't a very cold night out, but an element of chill is in the air. The crime rate in New York is down for the first time in twenty years.
Inside a restaurant, a family is sitting around waiting for their meals. The two children are bickering back and forth as children do, but that is only expected when one is seven and the other ten. The girl, Sarah was the seven year old. She was a little mature for her age and knew more about New York than manager of the Yankee's. It was her town, she was proud of where she was from. She went to every Met's game and every Knick's game, with her father.
The boy Randy, must have been the ten year old one than. He unlike his sister was more into theater, like his father. He was completely in love with Broadway and modern day entertainment. He spent much of his free time at the show.
This get together, was the combination of both minds of the children. Although the two kids were constantly at each others backs, the parents always brought them together and this time was one of the major points in the year... Mom and Dad's anniversary.
"Kids can I talk to your mother alone for a few moments?" The father asked. His name was Jonothan Cassidy, a captain on the NYPD, and a darn good one. In the last year he took down every major gang and drug bust within the last four years. Jonothan was a large clean cut white man, with thick, wavy, brown hair. His hair matched in grace only by his midnight blue eyes.
The children left the table and ran towards the little children's area that the restaurant had. "Finally alone, Michelle. The children are very good at planning these kind of things aren't they?" Jonothan said to his wife. "I must agree with you. We must be the best parents in the world. That, or we have the best kids in the world." Michelle replied to her husband. "The food was fine, and so is the atmosphere. I must do something before we leave, would you like to dance with me Michelle?" he asked the woman of his dreams.
Jonothan picked up the white napkin by the side of his plate and wiped his face and hands with it. "Come my darling." he told his wife, as he excused himself from the table and extended his hand to Michelle. The kids looked on in disregard and decided to go out for a breath of fresh air. The music began to play and the two danced and conversed.
"So how did you get the night off from work Jonothan? I thought the department was caught up truing to get that convict back in prison. I shouldn't complain though, I really miss being able to spend many a night like this with you. So I think I shall embrace it as it came to me at long last." Jonothan just looked at her, straight in her eyes, "A captain usually gets what he wants. You should know that by now, honey." he explained.
Meanwhile, outside in the parking lot the children were playing a game of hide and seek among the cars and other vehicles. "Come and find me!" Sarah yelled. She my have been more mature than her older sibling, but Randy had the brains over her. He knew to follow her voice and that would help him find his sister. "I'm coming for you Sarah!" the brother yelled back. He began running through the cars, keeping his ear out to find where the sisters voice came from. He couldn't here anything, just the sound of his own breath and the steady beat of his heart. Running around he heard a door open and close, he sworn it was his sister and followed the noise. When he finally came to the source of the noise, there she was trying to hide herself by laying down in the back of the car. Randy opened the door and for a second just stared at her. Randy than let out a slight laugh, "I found you, Sarah." he said, and than backed off for her to get out of the car. When she didn't oblige he continued on, "Sarah, I found you. Come out of the car before you get in trouble." but yet she still didn't come out. "Sarah, this isn't like you. Please come out, I'm scared... and cold." he said. Still, little Sarah Cassidy did not come out of the car. This time, her brother, Randy, decided to tap her on the shoulder and turn her around. "You can't scare me Sarah, I'm much too old for that." but when he turned her around, Randy sure was scared. Randy screamed at the sight of a bloodied Sarah and he ran away, heading back towards the restaurant.
As he began running towards the restaurant he could hear the footsteps of somebody following him, but he didn't want to look back to see who it was. He was almost inside but something, somebody grabbed him from behind. "You aren't going anywhere fast. You look a lot like your father kid. Your father is Jonothan Cassidy, right kid?" the man that grabbed Randy asked. The boy just nodded his head, "Good, I have a special job for you. Just stay still and don't move." the man ordered the little ten year old boy.
Inside the two parents were still dancing the night away, this time to a different song. They had no wonders as to where their children were. They trusted their children enough not to get into too much trouble, especially in a very public place such as this. A loud blast was heard coming from the direction of the doors. The music stopped and so did the dancers. A man came in holding a child. "Honey, isn't that our Randy?" Michelle asked in shock, "RANDY!" Jonothan screamed, "Put my boy down or I will be forced to open fire. I am a member of the New York Police Department and... Edward." The father said out loud. The man that had their son at gunpoint chuckle at him to acknowledge what he said. Jonothan turned to his wife to whisper in her ear, "Michelle, that is the escaped convict, Edward Kennedy. We were just talking about him. Just stay calm I have it under control." Edward heard the last words out of the mans mouth. "I am sorry but I couldn't help but overhear your conversation with your wife, who is looking very pretty in her death dress I must say Mr. Cassidy. However, I must beg to differ. I would say that I have this situation under control!" the man exclaimed, and with that pulled the trigger on the boy.
The body of the young boy flew into the direction of the parents. The only thing separating the opposing forces now was the body of what is now Jonothan' deceased son. The mother began to cry as loud as possible and ran to her dead son. She dropped down to cover him, placing her right hand over the bullet wound in his head. The blood was pulsating through it like clockwork. The mother still crying let out a yelp and ran at the man. The man did the exact same thing that he had done to the boy. Now laying next to the boy was his mother.
The father who had been crying had stopped. He walked forward until he was standing in between Michelle and Randy. You could see the anguish on his face. He was ready to kill. "You just took away everything in my life. You already had nothing, Edward. Why did you have to take away everything from me. I have nothing now... My job... Pointless. I had my job to provide for my family, and now I don't have a family to provide for. You took the life of my son, Randy!" The now livid Jonothan screamed. The man, Edward, nodded his head. "You took the life of my wife, Michelle!" He once again screamed this. Edward again acknowledged his evil actions. "Sarah?" Jonothan asked. "You better bet your bottom dollar, Pop's and now I plan on taking you out." Edward said and than shot at the police officer. Cassidy fell down, and Edward fled the scene. Thinking he was dead, Edward didn't even bother checking on him... He should have.
Just a week later, Jonothan Cassidy woke up to a nurse standing over him. "Michelle...You're alive!" he exclaimed. "Too much excitement Mr. Cassidy, you need your rest... Calm down. I am the nurse. Your wife, your children, they all died, you watched them." The nurse explained to the former parent.
Jonothan sat up from his previous laying down position. "I have to get out of her... Edward." he said to himself quietly. "What you need to do is go back to sleep, Jonothan. You are no good to anybody like this. Jonothan casually ignored absolutely everything the nurse just told him. He searched around his body until his right hand found his left and pulled out the intervenes from it. It looked to sting a little bit but he got over it. He found a needle beside him on the bedside table. It must have been a sedative. Jonothan took one glance at the nurse and one glance at the needle before he decided that he was going to knock the nurse out. With the blink of an eye, the nurse was now replacing Jonothan on the bed.
Some how or another, Jonothan found his way out of the hospital filled with cops. He found it a little easier than he expected it would be. One would think that Jonothan' first stop would be straight to the top and try to find Edward, but his first stop was going to be his home to pick up a few things.
It was a long walk from down town to the residential area of the city but he made it. A slight problem was provided however. The police were investigating the house for any clues to the murder. "A waiting game. I am already sick of being patient for revenge." he said to himself.
It was about four hours into waiting that the police finally left the Cassidy residence. "Finally. All of this time for a couple simple things. Jonothan casually walked into his house un noticed. The first and last stop in his house was the bed room. As he walked in the door, there he seen what he was looking for... the picture of his family. He picked it up from the dresser and threw it across the other side of the room, destroying the frame. Jonothan moved over to the picture which was now on the bed. He took out his wallet from his pants which he picked up from the hospital, and stuffed the picture inside.
"Now for some clothes." Jonothan said to himself, opening up his closet. He immediately found what he was going to wear and swore it would be the last thing he would wear. He needed to get off the clothes he was wearing. It was what he was wearing the night it all happened. He picked out a white muscle shirt and black dress pants. He got dressed and threw his old clothes into a basket. He reached up top and got his gun from where he hid it inside the 'Sorry!' board game box. He thought that it would be a nice place to hide a gun since nobody played that game anymore. He shoved that into his waste line. The last thing he needed was outside by the door...His sport coat from work.
As Jonothan walked down the hall he came across his son' room. He could remember all the times they had together in that room. "He was only ten!" he screamed, and fell to the floor in tears. When he came around, Jonothan noticed the little brown teddy bear beside him. A person came into the room. "What do you have their Jonothan?" a mans voice asked, "It was Randy's... Chuck what are you doing hear?" It was his partner Charles White. "I could ask you the same thing buddy." Charles said as he put his hand on Jonothan' shoulder. Jonothan stood up beside his partner with the bear in his hand. He walked out to the kitchen and told Chuck to sit at the table, and he did. Jonothan grabbed two beers out of the fridge. He tossed one to his partner, and sat down and opened the other one for himself.
"What are you doing Jonothan?" he asked. "Look just have your drink... I am in no mood for explanations." Jonothan explained. "Cassidy, I am on duty." he said looking at the saddened face of his partner. "Than let me drink mine." he said looking up for a second and than switches his attention back to the bottle.
The drink was done. Jonothan stood up from his seat and walked towards the door still carrying the bear. "Oh, one thing." Jonothan said, "My coat." and he picked up the coat from the rack by the doar and put it on his back. "I am only going to ask you one more time partner. What are you doing here? You are supposed to be hospitalized." Chuck asked. "I am supposed to be hospitalized and I should be dead... I am going after Kennedy." Cassidy said softly, and than he walked out the door. "Come back here Cassidy. You won't get very far being a hero, nobody needs a hero... Everybody in New York needs Jonothan Cassidy!" Chuck yelled to his partner, trying to get him to come back...
Cassidy just continued to walk down the street looking slick and much like a regular day street thug. He was determined to get revenge for his families sake. Up until this point Jonothan acted as if he did not even notice Chuck existed but than stopped for a second and turned around to reply, "So Does My Family Chuck...And Don't Try To Stop Me!"
