Like a river in the depths of winter
Your heart was cold
Your blood frozen in your veins
Your eyes blue and glazed over
Like the haze of frost on the window.
You were ancient
Yet no older than I.
How could I forget your autumn hair
About your face and your shoulders
Your cheeks loosing color
A strand in your mouth
You hate that
But you brush it away
And I can not touch you
And like a river in the depths of winter
You were fast before now
You were joyous and youthful
And too soon made still
You were so sure that you had
Found all the answers
But you lost them when the wind
Blew the dirt of your eyes
I wonder if you will become yourself again
And I wonder if you are not really the world
If you are not the modern culture
That flounders in the same cruel questions
And comes up with the same cruel answers
And still cannot find a place to call your own
