The group of odd-looking people sat at the back of the No 24 bus. The other passengers were staying as far away from them as possible. Even the bus driver was driving a little faster to get away from them. The oddest thing about them was that they carried a small, lit candle with them, despite the obvious fire risk. This group was the Requiem.
Requiem was founded two years ago. The members were important members of a, now disbanded, army-for-hire, Rolling Thunder. An eccentric green-clad man called Jules Greene led them. In Rolling Thunder’s final hour, an evil psychopath who went by the name of Alice gruesomely murdered him.
Requiem consists of six people, all who knew Jules well. The leader of Requiem is Matthias December, a spy and assassin by nature. His dark clothes and poorly concealed crossbows make him an intimidating sight. He is the estranged son of Alice.
Renji defines himself as a stealthy ninja. He is Matthias’ brother and former arch-nemesis. After his master was murdered alongside Jules, Renji turned his focus on hunting down his father. Renji’s attire is mostly black, being a ninja, but for some unknown reason, he wears a blood-red neckerchief. He believes that colour and feelings cloud the mind and dull the senses.
The person who knew Jules the closest is Bakuri Kinomoto. She insists that she was just a close friend. Bakuri is never seen without her wooden case; which on first glance, looks like it is for ice skates. However, when provoked to fight, Bakuri opens the case to reveal her sword, which she has become quite adept at using in the past two years. The sword previously belonged to her “friend”, Jules.
Emmska Dukoffsky would probably be in jail now, if Jules hadn’t paid her bail and took her into Rolling Thunder. She has come a long way since her childhood in Eastern Europe. What she lacks in size, she makes up for in firepower with a frighteningly big assault rifle.
The smart-alec and technological genius of the group is the paranoid Zaccheus Graff. While everyone would like to punch him in face, they know they can’t because he designs every piece of equipment they use. Even the watches! Graff claims everything else is bugged to spy on him.
Graff’s adopted little sister and Matthias’ fiancé, Lateera is the sentimental, emotional one in Requiem. Thanks to her biomechanical enhancements and her adolescent age, she can become a little too emotional at times. However, Sometimes she acts more mature than her older brother, Graff, who is fourteen years her senior.
And the candle. Bakuri’s idea originally, the candle represents the fighting spirit and determination of Jules. It always stays lit, even underwater oddly enough.
The bus grinded to a halt. Requiem stood up and walked slowly to the door at the front of the bus. The other passengers backed away from the aisle. A little girl with braided hair and clutching a red ball was watching Renji curiously from her seat. As she did so, she dropped her red ball. It rolled and stopped at Renji’s feet.
He looked down at the ball, and then at the girl in her seat. Renji bent down and picked up the ball. He squatted next to the girl and held out her ball. The girl laughed and reached out for it. Then Renji burst the ball!
The girl burst out crying. Renji smiled. Matthias quickly hurried him off the bus. As soon as they had got off, the bus drove away at top speed. The group stared at Renji in shock.
“Why did you do that, December?” Bakuri burst out. Renji shrugged.
“They were scared. I had to give them a reason to be scared,”
A few streets later, Requiem stood outside the most expensive and extravagant in the district, the Sans Parieil. The glowing neon lights on the fiftieth floor towered above them.
“Which room did you say is ours?” Emmska asked.
“Well, my room is the penthouse suite, on the top floor,” Graff paused. Even though he was the shortest person in the group, he was looking down on them, “but the manager assured me that there was room in the basement.”
The others seethed with rage. Oblivious, Graff picked up his knapsack and strolled casually inside.
Well, there’s one chapter finished already. Hopefully there will be more soon.
