Teardrops

Teardrops bless my pillowcase,
Soothe and ease me
Off to sleep,
Along my burning cheekbones creep
Little comforts I cannot see
Rolling at their solemn pace.

Teardrops come and go,
But, I’ve never forgotten
Their bittersweet symphony,
Playing along to comfort me
Not knowing how or why or when-
I remember them from long ago.

But teardrops don’t come tonight,
Even though I’d welcome them,
Embrace them as my very own
Feel them warm against cheekbone,
Curling downwards to my chin.
How I’d welcome them tonight.

So, teardrops won’t you come?
Come, kiss me goodnight,
Come and sing me off to sleep
Rock me off to slumber deep,
Wrap me up in blanket tight
And make me to this world feel numb.

So blessed teardrops on this night,
Won’t you come, wish me goodnight?
