Written October 19, 2003. I was having a terrible day, and then I realized that somehow one of my favorite rings had broken. So this is just about everything seeming to fall apart on you... you know we've all been there.
--
I’m staring at silver in my hand
All that’s left, the jewels are missing
Metal and gems no longer kissing
Iknew you wouldn’t understand.
I’m gazing at a broken chain
Long and fine, the links are torn
Rusted gold, the luster worn
It grazes skin, a burning pain.
The rubies are bleeding, the sapphires cry
Tears fixed in a silver setting
Diamonds dull are now forgetting
They once were bright as stars in sky.
Opals are agony rolled into white
Pang my heart with cadav’rous glowing
Utter darkness is now showing
Onyx glitt’ring in the black of night.
All the grief was once contained
By bands and settings hard and strong
But nothing holds the sorrow for long
It ravages my mind, now unrestrained.
