Chirp, Twitter
Terra LoPiccolo
Sitting outside under a tree
Water runs down the hillside
Caressing rocks, silver stones
Forming pools, little ponds
Sound of running water, tiny chimes
Charming, relaxing under the oak tree.
Away from cars, phones, alarm clocks
It is quiet but not silent
Leaves rustle, grasses hum
Creating songs composed
By wind
A soft sputter
A tiny splash
Time resounding disturbance
Floating between chorus
Again. Sputter. Splash.
A chirp, a twitter
A sparrow
Bathing in little pools
Shaking his pale and walnut wings
Singing as he goes, like many do
While in the shower
He jumps from here to there
Dips his feathers, shakes them clean
A chirp, a twitter
He can tell silence from quiet
Quiet from peace
He doesn’t know of cell phones
Engines, alarms
Beeping, clicking, buzzing
He knows chirp, twitter
He knows his wings
And when they need to be clean.
