There was sunshine in the sky
Just a mere hour ago -
The freezing winds of Night
Have brought with them the darkness
That now so encapsulates this place.
Headlights shine along the road,
Interrupted by Mother Nature,
Knitting with her rain.
The Moon stares through
The clouds as if through
Oily paper, grateful side
Facing the empowering sun.
The potholes in the road
Make the car shiver with the cold
As it glides on and on.
The autumn trees desperately
Reach for the sky like fists
Of the awakened dead.
And yet, on a night like this
Was when we met,
When others stare out
Into this cold depressing Night
Whose eyes pierce through
And siege any joyous thoughts,
I feel the warm soft glow
Of the sun's lack.
