Sanctum

In my inner sanctum,

Where feelings are all mine.

I think about some problems,

It seems like all the time.

The world around me’s shaky,

The earths begun to shift.

Yet it hasn’t gotten better,

Since those airplanes first took lift.

Men at war are dying

As I lock myself in my room.

I calm myself with a book,

Since there’s nothing else I can do.

When you choose your battles,

You’re supposed to choose them right.

But who decided now was the time to fight?

And while this earthquake rumbles,

In the month of May.

I’m fighting my own battles

In a different way.

Things around me crumble,

To me it’s only seen,

Sometimes I watch in silence,

As things come apart at the seams.

It seems to me that some things,

Don’t ever fade away.

Maybe others are just blinded,

Or keeping it at bay.

Yet as the winds tear through us

Our walls don’t stand as strong.

And many flee a country,

In massive hordes and throngs.

But many cannot run,

Because of a quarantine.

Struck down by a terrible sickness,

That today cannot be seen.

It seems that every day,

Some new problem ensues.

Yet in my heart I know,

America will make it through.

These problems are in my sanctum,

That only I can see.

And yet I sit here safe,

In the land of the free.
