Slipped Through My Fingers

I was so close to you
As you cried in my arms, fading away
I tried to make you glow again
To shine so you wouldn't disappear
But I was too late
You had slipped through my fingers

You had so much self-doubt and hate to your life
You couldn't stand it and
Said everything was your fault
I wanted to make you laugh
Like when you were a little kid
But it was too late
You were gone long before I knew

I held your trembling body on the last night
Your tears drenching me
I wanted to bring you back from moody land
I gave up everything to bring you back but myself
Maybe if I offered my soul you could live on
But we can't go back now
You're buried, angel wings of yours giving you flight

I was so close but miles away from you
The distant light in your everlasting night
But if I gathered all the stars in the sky
And showed their birghtness to you
Would it have saved you or only blinded you?

You had so much self-doubt and hate to your life
You couldn't stand it and
Said everything was your fault
I wanted to make you laugh
Like when you were a little kid
But it was too late
You were gone long before I knew

You had slipped through my fingers
