Untamed Heart

1 December 2004
Corpus Christi, Texas

Love took flight to the hinterlands,—
Last I saw that rare beast roaming
Place wildly uninhabited.

No clear signs human beings had been,
Anywhere near forbidden paths,—
Though, faded gardens had a past,

Some haunting memory unseen,—
As dim stars peering through gloaming,—
¿Something Genesis’s mists hinted?

Who can tell, now the die is cast,
Prophecy unknown—no forecast;
As life—hot desert—blows dry blasts.

Somewhere in those sands wandering,
Delusion’s ecru wilderness,
Illusion’s fancy pandering,

Let me know if you sight Phoenix,
Arising mystery’s small Sphinx,—
Inconstant love’s dire bane—my jinx.
