“Its your fault that she died! Your fault! If you had been a better protector, she would have never died! It’s your fault that Laurel died! You will pay!” With those words, the knife was brought down, effectively puncturing the man’s neck, killing him. As he fell to the floor with a thud, the blood pooling from his neck, creating a pool of red below him, the man smiled harshly, vowing to get revenge.

Looking out towards the electric gates through which he had entered, he smiled grimly, his features twisting as if in an awful grimace, betraying the fact that his real smile was actually very nice. Sighing, he mumbled to himself, “I promise to avenge your death, Laurel. Your death will not go unpunished. I swear it, on my life.”

Glancing once more at the body, he bent down, placing an envelope on top of the body and securing it with a stone so that it wouldn’t blow away. Then, without another glance at the body, he walked away, in no hurry, leaving behind him, the beginning of his work.

“Mark Christianson, accomplice to the Bayville killers, was murdered yesterday afternoon, when he was out on trash duty. The only evidence that someone else had been there, a sealed envelope, left on top of the body. We have no knowledge of what was in this envelope, but this reporter thinks that it is a continuation of the horror that struck not even a year ago, a horror that claimed the lives of five innocents in this town and the innocents of many more across the country,” Trent Hunter reported, frowning grimly as the camera was shut off.

Sighing, Trent ran his fingers through his hair, before turning and shouting, “Michael! Get your lazy ass over here!” As Trent watched, Michael Greyson, his friend and also, his script writer, came running towards him.

Stopping in front of Trent, Michael grinned and asked, “Yeah, boss?”

Rolling his eyes, Trent grinned and replied, “Don’t call me boss. And I just wanted to say good job on the script. Better than the last one. Then again, everyone knows you like writing about murders and the like. You know you’re morbid, right?”

Grinning, Michael laughed, asking, “You don’t say!? I know I’m morbid. It adds fun to my life. I love freaking people out.”

Shaking his head, Trent grinned, saying, “Well, we’re finished for today. You can leave whenever you want to. There isn’t anything left to do here that the camera crew can’t finish by themselves.”

“Great! Thanks boss!” With that, Michael ran off, grabbing his back pack on the way and slinging it over his shoulder, grinning when he heard Trent yell out not to call him boss.

“I can’t believe Hunter! Doesn’t he know when to mind his own business!?” Stephanie shouted, her anger growing by the second. She took deep breaths, glaring around at the police office in which she stood. She could clearly remember the note that the killer had left with the body. She had read it only once, but she had memorized it all the same.

‘You took something that was precious to me. Laurel will be avenged. Everyone will die, and their blood will be on your hands. The last to die, will be you, the one who took her from me. The first to go was her “so-called” protector. Everyone will die. No one will be spared.’

She had paled when she had read that letter. She had thought that all the horror would be over with the death of both Laurel and Dominique, but she was wrong. So very wrong. Now it was beginning all over again. And she was just as clueless as to who the killer was. But she knew that she had to try her best to catch the killer. Everyone that had been close to Laurel was a suspect. She had already questioned Laurel’s mother, aunts, and everyone else that she had been close to. But nobody knew anything. No one had a clue as to who could have killed Mark. She was at a dead end.

A knock sounded upon her door and Trinity stuck her head in, her face pale and worried. Clearing her throat, she hesitantly murmured, “A letter was just delivered.” Going further into the room, Trinity placed the letter on top of the desk, holding it between her thumb and finger, careful not to touch more than necessary.

Looking at Trinity with a question in her eyes, Stephanie cursed under her breath as she got the answer to the question she had already know. The letter was from the killer. He was beginning to follow in the footsteps of Laurel and Dominique. Taking the letter carefully, she opened it, and pulled out the folded paper, laying it open on her desk.

Sighing, she cursed, and began to read aloud.

“ ‘Hello again. I can tell you are worried about the new Bayville killer. It is so easy to see. But let me tell you, I am not the one that killed Mark. He wasn’t worth my time. Why would I waste my time on someone so pathetic as him? I would never do that. But I do know why he is determined to kill everyone. I understand it. That is why I have decided to join him. Very soon, it will be the two of us that will make the kill, and he won’t have to be alone in his pain anymore. He doesn’t deserve to go through this alone, and I won’t let him go through it alone. I will be his shadow, making sure he doesn’t get caught. We will succeed where Laurel and Dominique failed. Everyone will die!’”

Turning wide eyes to Trinity, Stephanie paled and whispered, “There’s two!? Good Lord! It’s happening all over again!”

“So, you wanna hang tonight? I don’t want to spend time around mom tonight. She’ll be freaking out about Mark’s death. Just because I was almost killed, doesn’t mean she has to practically suffocate me in protection! I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if she hired a bodyguard to protect me at all times!” Michelle exclaimed, glaring at the ground as she walked next to Michael Greyson, her friend for several years.

Chuckling, Michael rolled his eyes and grinned, teasing, “Tsk, tsk, tsk! Now, now! No need to get all huffy! Your mom is only worried. There isn’t any reason to get all upset over it.”

“No reason to get all upset over it!? You don’t know my mom! She was asking me if I felt safe enough without a bodyguard! Then she phoned two private investigators! Supposedly they’re the best the country! Do you have any idea how much that’s going to cost her!? It’s going to cost her a fortune!” Michelle exclaimed angrily, stopping to glare up at Michael.

Laughing disbelievingly, Michael’s eyes widened as he choked on his laughter, gasping and sputtering, asking, “She DIDN’T!” At Michelle’s angry look and nodding head, Michael’s laughter stopped completely, and he stared at her wide-eyed, gasping, “She did! Jesus! You should try talking some sense into her! She’ll be lucky if she doesn’t go broke paying for the two of the investigators! I heard about them before! They are indeed the best, but they aren’t very old. One of them, I think, is only around 19, while the other is like 20. They’re both extremely smart! They got their degrees when they were only 16, and they’re already known throughout the country. They also only work on cases like murder and other things equally as violent and serious!”

Sighing, Michelle frowned and started walking again, muttering, “I know that! I say she’s lost it! Too many shocks in her life. Me almost getting killed and then Mark getting killed, just tipped her over the edge. She jumps at the slightest noise! I’m really worried about her!”

Shrugging, Michael chuckled, saying, “That’s easily fixed. Stick her in the hospital! You can come stay with me. You know how many classes of martial arts I’ve taken. Christ, I’m a black belt three times over! Your mom knows that. I’m better than a fucking bodyguard. Your mom knows that too.”

Sighing, Michelle frowned, mumbling, “Maybe you’re right. She does know I’m safe around you. If she knew that I was staying with you, then she probably would go to the hospital if I thought that she needed it. But what about Jason? How am I going to spend time with him. She won’t let me out of her sight, or she’ll tell you not to let me out of your sight.”

Grinning down at Michelle, Michael asked, “When have I ever listened to my parents, let alone anyone else’s parents? I don’t care if you go out with Jason. Just be back to my place before midnight, that’s all I care about, because my mom gets pissed off when people are coming and going through the house after midnight.”

Laughing, Michelle hugged Michael before running down the road to her place, calling back to Michael, “Thanks Michael! You’re a real pal!”

“Mom! I’m home!” Michelle called out, entering her house and preparing for the onslaught of an overprotective mother. She was surprised when her mother calmly walked out to meet her. She was even more surprised to see her mother followed by two women, not much older than her. Just as she was about to ask what was going on, her mother introduced the two women.

“Michelle, this is Kaylie Springer, and Sharon Cresswell, the two investigators I was telling you about. They just arrived a few hours ago. I was just letting them know about what has been going on recently, and what happened a few months ago, when those terrible girls attacked you,” Michelle’s mother said.

Groaning, Michelle rolled her eyes, nodding a polite hello to the two investigators, before turning to her mother and asking tightly, “Mother? Can I speak with you in the kitchen for a moment?”

Nodding, her mother smiled, before turning to the investigators and asking, “Can you please excuse me and my daughter for a moment? We won’t be long.”

Getting a small nod from the two investigators, Michelle grabbed her mother’s arm and pulled her into the kitchen, grumbling under her breath about overprotective mothers the whole time. When the door to the kitchen closed behind them, Michelle turned to her mother and took a deep breath, asking, “Why mother? Why did you hire them? We’ll be bankrupt by the time the killer is caught.”

Frowning, Michelle’s mother crossed her arms and said, “I don’t care. All I care about is that the killer is caught and that you are safe. If it takes all my money to do that, then so be it.”

Sighing, Michelle growled under her breath slightly, before deciding to use this to her advantage. Nodding, Michelle sighed, saying, “I’ll accept that, but only if you do one thing for me.”

Smiling, her mother nodded, asking, “What do you want me to do?”

“Mom, I want you to go to the hospital. You’re not well, you’re too stressed out over all this and I think that you need help. Please? Do this for me?” Michelle asked, her eyes pleading.

Frowning, Michelle’s mother sighed, asking, “And where would you stay young lady? You are not staying in this house all by yourself! I forbid it! Not with that psycho on the loose!”

“No Mom! I’m not going to stay here! Michael offered to let me stay at his place,” Michelle said, her voice normal as she tried to keep the hope out of her tone.

Frowning slightly, Michelle’s mother thought for a moment, before asking, “Do you mean Michael Greyson? The nice boy with the black belt for martial arts? The one who works with that nice reporter, Trent Hunter?”

Nodding, Michelle smiled slightly, saying, “Yes. That’s who I mean. He offered to let me stay with him. And you know I’d be safe with him. He’s excellent in martial arts. Nobody would dare to challenge him.”

Smiling, Michelle’s mom nodded saying, “Fine! I’ll go stay in the hospital, but you have to stay with Michael at all times, or in a large group, so you won’t get hurt like you were almost hurt before. Promise me.”

Smiling, Michelle nodded, saying, “I promise to stay with Michael at all times, or with a large group. No wondering off by myself. I promise!”

Nodding, Michelle’s mom hugged her, before walking off, saying, “I’ll just go and pack, then you can drive me to the hospital. I’ll give you the car keys to the convertible too, after you drop me off, and help me get settled in.”

Sighing, Michelle waited until her mother was out of hearing range, before pumping her fist in the air, and whispering loudly, “YES!”

Back in the living room, both Sharon and Kaylie were looking over files containing information on the Bayville killers and the murders they had committed.

Sighing, Kaylie turned to Sharon, and frowned, saying, “There’s over thirty different people that’s been killed by those two girls! What I’d like to know, is how they managed to keep one step ahead of us all this time. And now, there’s another killer to add to the fold. But this one is doing this because he was in love with one of the killers or something. I think it was Laurel he was fascinated with. Let’s just hope that he sticks to this town only, and doesn’t try to move to other towns, like the girls did. It’ll make our job a whole lot easier to do.”

Nodding, Sharon looked up from the file she was reading on Dominique, saying, “Yeah. It would make our job easier. But we can’t be sure of anything. Everyone is a suspect, until we say so. We’ve already checked out the people the chief of police looked into, and all of them checks out. They all have stable alibis, and they had no motive to kill Mark, at least, not one matching the reason in the note. All we can really do, is check around town, look for anyone suspicious and watch them, making sure we know what’s going on every hour of the day.”

“Yeah. We’ll go down to forensics later on, and look at whatever evidence they have concerning the murder, if there is any evidence that is. If this killer is anything like the girls, then there won’t be any evidence, or, if there is, then very little. But certainly nothing to incriminate the guy,” Kaylie muttered to herself.

The both of them glanced up when they heard footsteps and saw Michelle walk in, a frown on her face as she studied the papers that were strewn across the coffee table and the looks on intense concentration on their faces. Standing up, the both of them nodded, as Kaylie said, “Hello Michelle. I hope everything is alright?”

Turning a disapproving frown towards Kaylie, Michelle glared, asking in a frigid voice, “I would prefer that you didn’t use my first name. You may call me Miss Gray. Nothing else. Only my friends are aloud to use my name.”

Frowning slightly, Kaylie nodded, saying, “Very well, Miss Gray. I expect everything is ok?”

“Not that it’s any of you business, but yes. My mother has decided to check into the hospital because I am worried about her health. I will be staying at a friends house, and our house will be locked up tight, with both sets of keys being in my possession. I believe my mother gave you the other set? I would like them back. Now!” Holding out her hand, Michelle waited for the keys to be placed in her palm.

Frowning, Sharon pulled the keys out of her pocket and deposited them into Michelle’s waiting palm, muttering under her breath about spoiled brats.

Glancing at the keys, Michelle frowned even more, demanding, “I’ll also take all copies you made of the key, please?”

Growling in annoyance, Kaylie removed three more keys from her pocket and dropped them into Michelle’s palm, saying sarcastically, “That’s all we have, little girl!”

Folding her hand around the keys, Michelle deposited them into her pocket and frowned, saying, “Do not call me little girl. And do not presume to think that you will overcharge my mother for what she hired you to do. You will be paid a normal, base amount, no more. I will not let the both of you abuse my mothers generosity! Now, if you would just gather your things, I’ll escort you to the door, so I can go and help my mother.”

Grumbling, Sharon and Kaylie turned and gathered up their files, placing them back into the boxes they had been in, before gathering the boxes and following Michelle out to the front door. Slipping on their shoes, they walked out of the house, frowning the entire time. They had just turned to tell Michelle to thank her mother for her co-operation, when the door slammed in their faces, causing them to growl and turn. Walking to their car, they put the boxes in the trunk, and got in, starting it up.

Pulling on her seat belt, Kaylie muttered to Sharon, “I hope the killer decides to kill her off next. I wouldn’t blame the stupid bastard!”

Chuckling, Sharon buckled her own seat belt, saying, “I wouldn’t blame him either, but then, we wouldn’t be paid. That was one of the conditions to being paid. We have to make sure that Miss Gray doesn’t get herself killed, remember?”

Gunning the engine, Kaylie pulled out of the drive way, and muttered, “Don’t remind me!”

“So you got your mother settled in at the hospital alright? No problems?” Michael asked, taking a couple bags from Michelle and taking them to the spare bedroom.

Shaking her head, Michelle picked up a large case, along with two back packs and another suitcase, saying, “There wasn’t any problems. But mom has to stay there for at least six months, so I’ll stay here until the stuff with the killer is over, and then I’ll go back to my place and stay there by myself. No problems.”

Nodding, Michael dropped the two, rather large, suitcases on the floor in the spare bedroom, asking, “Did you really need all this stuff? Couldn’t you have packed a little lighter or something?”

Gasping, Michelle faked an offended expression, asking, “How could you even suggest something like that? Why this case alone could barely contain all the essential make-up I use!” Setting the case she was talking about on the bed, she laughed as Michael rolled his eyes, before saying, “I just wanted to be prepared. I will be going out and stuff, so I’ll need extra clothes for stuff like that, then the two suitcases you brought in were school clothes, the suitcase I brought in was date clothes, the purple backpack has shower things and the like, the black and green backpack has my school stuff, and the case, like I said, contains my make-up.”

Sighing, Michael rolled his eyes, muttering, “I’ll never understand why girls need to pack so much when they go somewhere. All I ever pack is clean clothing for each day, which, in comparison to what you have packed, would only be that case, or something of similar size. Definitely not all this!”

Huffing, Michelle tossed her school bag onto the bed, before glaring at him and saying, “Well, that’s you. Girls are different! Girl’s are more complex!”

“More troublesome you mean!” Michael exclaimed, laughing.

“Oh, who asked you! Get out before I whap you one!” Michelle exclaimed, trying to sound angry, but failing as she burst out laughing.

“ I still says girls are too hard to understand, especially if that girl happens to be your best friend!” Michael exclaimed, dodging out of the way of a flying pillow that Michelle had thrown at him. “I’m going, I’m going! You don’t have to get so violent!”

“I’ll toss something harder if you don’t hurry up and leave so I can put away my things!” Michelle laughingly teased, picking up her binder.

Laughing, Michael bolted for the door, slamming it shut behind him as he called out, “Supper will be ready in an hour!”

Rolling her eyes, Michelle set about packing, chuckling every now and then, and laying out the outfit she would be wearing on her date that night.

Later that night, as Michelle and Jason Langley were out on their date, they were being watched by a set of piercing eyes. This wouldn’t have been strange, except for the fact that there happened to be a killer on the loose.

As the killer watched the two teens, he began muttering to himself, “You had to go and ruin it, didn’t you Jason? She obviously likes you a lot, and you had to go and cheat on her with that Elissa Montgomery bitch, didn’t you? Well, I would say that you’d live to regret it, but you won’t. You’ll die before this night is over, Jason, you can count on it. Michelle has already been hurt by enough things in this life time. She doesn’t deserve this, even though she will feel the pain of the knowledge that you were cheating on her. But it won’t be long now. You will die soon.”

That said, the killer ran off to retrieve something from his home, knowing where the two would end up and knowing what time Jason would be alone for a few minutes. He only needed a few minutes. That’s all the time it would take to kill Jason.

Michelle and Jason stopped by the burger joint for something to eat, before walking down towards the beach, looking every now and then up at the star filled sky. Michelle was tucked in next to Jason’s side with Jason’s arm around her shoulders, while her arm was around his waist, and her free hand was swinging casually at her side.

Sighing, Michelle smiled and looked up at Jason, her eyes shining with happiness, as she asked, “Isn’t the night beautiful, Jason? I love the moon and stars. They’re so calming.”

Nodding, Jason tightened his arm slightly, glancing around the deserted, moonlit beach, and wondering out loud, “Should we even be here tonight? I mean, with the killer and all?”

Chuckling, Michelle shook her head and said, “Maybe we shouldn’t be here, but I feel safe with you here with me. That’s all I care about.”

Smiling down at Michelle, Jason leaned down and gave her a brief kiss on the lips, before pulling back and grinning, saying, “Maybe you’re right. Maybe he won’t try anything with two of us here.” Releasing Michelle, he pushed her towards the waters edge, saying, “Go ahead. I know you want to stand by the water. I’ll be right here.”

Nodding, Michelle smiled, before running down towards the waters edge, leaving Jason behind her, watching her, not even knowing about what was to happen in the next five minutes.

shift to different characters

As Jason was frowning thoughtfully, his gaze on his long time girlfriend, Michelle, he thought about how to break the news of his cheating on her to her. He knew she’s take it hard, but it couldn’t be avoided. He had fallen for the new girl that worked at the pizza place, Elissa Montgomery. Her family had moved to Bayville just after the Bayville killers had been caught. At first, he had tried to get rid of the feelings he felt for Elissa, he tried to ignore them, but it hadn’t worked. When he found out that Elissa felt the same for him, he had convinced her to go out with him, and they had been seeing each other secretly ever since then.

Just as he decided it was time to tell Michelle about Elissa, an arm appeared around his throat, effectively cutting off his air supply. He started to struggle, when he heard an hauntingly familiar voice sound next to his ear, a voice he had heard many times before. Only this time, the voice wasn’t murmuring an “hello”, it was murmuring the announcement of his death.

Jason was so startled by the sound of the familiar voice, the sound of someone he had always called friend, that his struggles stopped immediately and he managed to gasp out, “You!”

Chuckling, the killer tightened his hold, murmuring softly, “I see you recognize my voice, Jason. Too bad you won’t get to tell anyone. It really is your own fault that you’re going to die, you know. If you hadn’t cheated on Michelle, then this would never be happening. You wouldn’t be two seconds away from dying. But you made your mistake, and now you’ll pay for hurting a sweet girl like Michelle.”

With those words said, the killer pulled something loose off his watch, a thin piece of razor sharp metal string that gleamed in the moonlight. Jason didn’t even have a chance to move a step as the arm around his throat was released, before the razor sharp string caught on his throat and sliced cleanly through, making a slight low scrapping noise as it stopped when it met the bone of Jason’s spine.

Carefully lowering Jason’s body to the ground, the killer smiled down at his still clean clothes, while extracting the thin metal from Jason’s neck. Using Jason’s shirt, he cleaned the string, before letting it slide, slowly, back into his watch, nothing giving away the fact that he carried a dangerous and lethal weapon. Before he stood, he placed two letters on a clean part of Jason’s shirt. One letter was an open piece of paper, and it was addressed to Michelle, explaining why he had killed Jason. The other letter, was a sealed envelope, addressed to the police, telling them that he would win out in the end.

Standing straight, the killer glanced once at Michelle, before turning and walking quickly away, slipping through the night like a shadow, not even making the tiniest noise, leaving the way he had arrived.

Laughing, Michelle got to her knees to look at a tiny rock crab that was making its way towards the water. Still laughing, Michelle called out, “Jason! Come and look at this little guy! He’s so cute!” When Michelle didn’t get a reply right away, she turned her laughing features to where she had left Jason standing. Just as she was about to call out again, she noticed that Jason was laying on the ground instead of standing.

Laughing nervously, Michelle pushed herself to her feet, calling out, “Jason? Why are you laying down? Answer me!”

Walking towards Jason, she was about a foot or two away from his when she noticed that he wasn’t moving. The second thing she noticed, were two pieces of white paper laying on his stomach. The final thing she noticed, made her go still in horror, before a piercing scream of denial rang throughout the suddenly still night, as she saw his severed neck. Dropping to her knees, she began to pound the ground, crying hysterically.

Slamming her fist into the ground, she screamed denials. A slight wind that seemed to come from no where, started to blow, causing Michelle’s hair to flutter around her and causing the open note to flutter off Jason’s body and land near Michelle’s knees. Still crying, Michelle picked up the note and began to read it, noticing that it was addressed to her. The not startled her beyond comprehension and she had to re-read it, this time aloud, to make sure she had read correctly the first time, her tears still flowing, only this time for an added reason.

“ ‘Michelle, I am not sorry for what I did to Jason, but I am sorry for the pain you are feeling. I would never have had to cause you this pain if he had not done what he did, and I am sorry to cause you more pain by telling you just what it was that he did that caused his own death. He has been cheating on you for over two months, Michelle. With who, you ask? With that Elissa Montgomery bitch, that’s who! Jason deserved to die, so I killed him. Yet again, I apologize for causing you pain, but he needed to die! I hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me for hurting you.’”

Her eyes wide in shock, Michelle dropped the letter, causing the wind to carry it to lay on top of the blood soaked sand. But Michelle didn’t notice. All she could do, was stare at Jason in shock, he tears slowly stopping, as she kept asking herself, “Why!?”

She was found that way an hour later, still repeating the word, “Why!?”

She didn’t notice or seem to care when she was pulled away from the body by her best friend, Michael, as the police started to search the scene for any clues what-so-ever, carefully taking both pieces of paper and putting them in their own plastic bags. She didn’t even notice as she was forced to sit in a police car, or when the ambulance drove away, its sirens blaring. She could only stare in shock, cursing Jason for hurting her like this, and unconsciously thanking the one who had killed Jason for her, knowing it was wrong to think that way, but still missing him all the same.

shift to different characters

Amongst the clutter of civilians, and officials, were two that almost seemed to belong at a scene such as this. One was a male. The other female. It seemed only fitting, that the killer return to the scene of the crime, the scene of the kill. The female, was the one that had sent the letter to the police, the one that had declared that she would soon be working along side the killer, helping him, carefully concealing his footsteps.

She had decided that now she would approach him, now she would join in his work. No one thought that it was strange to see a female approach a male, since all over the place, that was happening, and no one was able to hear their conversation to become suspicious.

“I know it was you,” the female stated.

Those were the only words that could cause the male to stiffen in alarm. Cautiously, he looked down at the female next to him and smiled tightly, asking, “You know what was me?”

Chuckling lightly, she shook her head, “There isn’t any reason to get so defensive. I know what you did. I agree with it also. Jason deserved to die. He shouldn’t have cheated on Michelle. It only caused his own death. A death I agree with totally.”

Confusion entered the males eyes momentarily, wondering what was going on with the female at his side, before his eyes cleared and they turned deadly. He gripped her arm angrily, whispering harshly, “What, exactly, is it that you want?”

Shaking her head yet again, she extracted her arm from his grasp, saying, “What I want, is to join you. I want to join in your work. Everyone in this town deserves to suffer. I understood what Laurel and Dominique were trying to do, and I considered them my friends, but that bitch went and killed them, before they could complete their work. I want revenge for them, and for Michelle’s heartbreak!”

Again, the confusion entered the males eyes, before he shook it off, and nodded tersely, saying, “I’ll let you help me. The next person I’m going after is that bitch, Elissa Montgomery. But, if you would like to prove your loyalty to both me, and Laurel and Dominique, then you can have the chance to take her life yourself, to decided how she is to die.”

Nodding, the female smiled a gruesome smile, one that seemed out of place on her beautiful face, as she said, “I’m glad that you decided to let me help you. And yes, I think that I will take it upon myself to kill the bitch myself. But I will need your help. I already have a way to take her life, one that I believe will be most fitting.”

Michael helped Michelle into the house, his arm around her shoulder as she continued to cry hysterically. He led her to her room, and asked, “Are you going to be ok by yourself, Michelle? Do you want me to sit up with you for a while?”

Shaking her head, Michelle drew in a shaky breath, before trying to smile, saying, “I’ll be alright, Michael. You go on to bed. I’ll just get changed and then I’ll go to bed. We still have school tomorrow you know. Also, there was that basketball game that was supposed to be playing tomorrow night. We have to go to that. I’m going. Jason wouldn’t want me to stay home. He’d want me to go out a continue living.”

Frowning, Michael asked, “Are you sure you aught to go to school tomorrow? I’m sure everyone will understand if you don’t show up.”

Shaking her head, Michelle pushed Michael out of her room, saying, “You can’t make me change my mind, I’m going. And I’m also going to the game tomorrow night. Don’t try to talk me out of it. Now please, leave so I can get some rest for tomorrow.”

Sighing, Michael pulled Michelle into a quick hug, saying, “Try and get some sleep, ok? I’ll see you in the morning.”

With that, Michael left the room, shutting the door behind him, and going to his own room, his eyes still expressing his sympathy for Michelle and the pain she was going through at the moment.

shift to different characters

Michelle went through the next day in a trance. No one bothered her, in fact, anyone barely spoke to her. She went to her classes and did nothing, just staring ahead of her in her own, self-induced trace, not taking any notes or anything, nor paying any attention to her teachers and ignoring everyone who did bother to try talking to her. The only two she didn’t ignore, was her best friend, Michael, and Elissa Montgomery. She never smiled, but at least she was friendly towards Michael. All day, whenever Michelle saw Elissa in the hallways, she sent burning glares at her, glares that seemed to say, “This is all your fault! If it wasn’t for you, Jason would still be alive!”

She was like that the entire day, and most of the night, up until the basketball game. When she got to the game, she sat in the front row, never moving, except to follow the ball with her eyes. She had been acting like this all night, so everyone was surprised when she jumped to her feet, glaring out at Lucas Bryant, when Alexander Quick, the Captain of the basketball team, got knocked off his feat. She was still glaring at Lucas, when, as Alex got to his feet, with the aid of Craig, who had ran out to help him, Lucas started yelling at Alex and Craig.

“Look at the two faggots! Why don’t you go cry to your faggot mommy and daddy!? Why you two were aloud to stay on the team is beyond my reasoning! Why, you two probably get off looking at all the guys in the showers! How long were you two together before you decided to let everyone know? How long did you guys look at the other guys on the team and wish they were giving it to you up the ass!?” Lucas demanded, glaring hatefully at Alex and Craig.

Growling, Alex swung and his fist made contact with Lucas’s face, sending Lucas sprawling, and leaving Craig trying desperately to keep Alex from attacking Lucas yet again, murmuring soothing words in his loves ear, trying to get him to calm down.

Taking a deep breath, Alex glanced at Craig, love in his eyes and nodded, letting Craig know that it was alright for him to be released. Turning angry eyes back to Lucas, Alex growled out, “If it wasn’t for Craig, you’d be on your way to the emergency room right now, instead of getting away with just a bruised face and a three month suspension from the team. And don’t say that I can’t suspend you, since I know that I can. My father is the Coach of this team, and I know his mind well enough to know that he was already thinking what I just said.” Turning to the Coach, who also happened to his father, Alex frowned, asking, “Right dad?”

Nodding, Alex’s father smiled grimly, saying, “You got it. But I think that suspension is too lenient for someone like him.” Turning to Lucas, he glared, saying, “I won’t have homophobic’s on my team! Lucas, as of this moment, you’re off the team for good! You can turn in your uniform in the morning! Now get out of here!”

Growling, Lucas jumped to his feet, before storming out of the gym, slamming the door behind him. No one noticed two people, one male and one female, quietly slip out of the gym. No one noticed that someone was watching Lucas leave, hate and fear in their eyes.

The two of them entered the pizza place, startling the only one on call that night, at least until the game at the high school was over. Smiling, the girl behind the counter asked, “How may I help you two tonight?”

Smiling grimly, the female stepped forward, replying, “It’s not how you can help us, Elissa Montgomery, its how we can help you.”

Frowning uncertainly, Elissa tilted her head nervously, asking, “What do you mean? I don’t need any help.”

Chuckling, the male stepped forward, shaking his head, before turning to look at the female and saying, “It’s amazing how naive they can be, isn’t it? That’s their first problem. Their second problem, is being all alone with a killer on the loose.”

Nodding her head, the female turned ice cold eyes to Elissa and glared, saying, “You will pay for hurting Michelle like you did! Jason has already paid, and so now will you!”

Eyes widening in realization, Elissa’s eyes darted around, looking for a way to escape, but there was none that her frantic mind could pick out. She was trapped. “I’m sorry! We never meant for anything to happen! Honestly!” Just as she was about to continue, she was knocked unconscious by a blow to the back of the head, the blow coming from a rolling pin that was being held by the male of the duo.

Stepping around the counter, the female shook her head, saying, “It’s too late now, Elissa. Your fate has been decided, and it is your fate to die. You won’t leave here tonight.” Motioning for the male to pick up Elissa and follow her, the female made her way to the back, where the ovens were located. Going to an oven that had been turned on high, she opened the door and motioned to the male, saying, “Put her in there. She’ll be dead before she knows it, from the intense heat of the oven. Maybe she’ll suffer before she dies.”

Grinning, the male hefted Elissa’s body and pushed her into the hot oven, laughing when he saw Elissa wince in pain as her bare flesh met the hot oven. Pushing her all the way in, he stepped back, and watched as the female closed and locked the oven door, turning the heat as high as it would go, guaranteeing that Elissa would be dead before the basketball game was over.

Nodding his head in satisfaction, he placed his hand on the female’s shoulder, saying, “You have proved yourself. I’ll trust you. I already have someone in mind for our next target. Lucas Bryant. I know for a fact that Laurel and Dominique approved of their relationship. I also approve of their relationship. He has to die.”

Nodding, the female frowned, saying, “He does have to die. He doesn’t deserve the breath that was given to him. Let’s get out of here. The basketball game should soon be over by now. We have to be out of here before everyone starts getting here.”

Nodding, the male started walking towards the entrance, stopping only when he heard a slight knocking, showing that Elissa had waken up and was frantically pounding on the oven door, begging to be let out. Laughing slightly, the both of them continued out the door, the sound of the frantic knocking echoing throughout the empty building and a small, sealed envelope fluttering to the ground.

“At least something interesting happened. I thought that this would be another boring high school basketball game. But we know a few more things about some of the people in this town now,” Kaylie said, pulling on her jacket and shouldering her purse.

Rolling her eyes, but nodding, Sharon followed her friends example, shouldering her purse, before heading for their car, saying, “Yeah. We did learn a few things. Like the fact the Captain of the basketball team and one of the players are in love and together and the fact that they’re both guys. But the fact that Lucas fits the profile of the killer, angry, male, seemingly upset with the world, if his actions were anything to go by, was a good piece of knowledge. We should get him in for questioning. Who knows, maybe he did like Laurel.”

Following her friend, Kaylie got in the car and started it up, asking, “You wanna go get something to eat? I heard that there was a really good pizza place a few blocks from here. Supposed to have some decent pizza.”

Shrugging, Sharon smiled, and nodded, asking, “Why not? I am a little hungry. And pizza sounds good.”

Nodding, Kaylie gunned the engine and said, “Let’s go then.” With that, they left the school parking lot and left to find the pizza place.

Entering the pizza place, Kaylie and Sharon were immediately alert. They heard none of the banging of pans that would let a person know that pizza’s were being made, nor did they hear any conversation of people talking while they worked. They heard only silence. That is, that did before a faint banging reached their ears, repeating itself every few seconds and seemingly getting fainter in loudness.

Motioning for Sharon to follow her, Kaylie drew her gun, heading towards the back of the pizza place, following the direction that the banging was coming from. The direction led her to the large pizza ovens in the back. Frowning in confusion, she listened intently, before she darted to one of the ovens, her eyes wide with shock. Quickly opening the locked oven door, she jumped back as a girl fell from the oven to come crashing to the floor, startled that someone had actually been in the oven.

Dropping to her knees, she motioned to Sharon to check the premises for any sign of the killer, before carefully rolling the girl on to her back. Not knowing the girls name, Kaylie gently patted the girls cheek, asking, “What’s your name, sweety? Can you tell me that?”

Thinking that the girl wouldn’t be able to answer, Kaylie was surprised when she heard the name Elissa Montgomery ghost past the girls lips, along with the words, “There’s two of them.” With those four little words, Elissa’s head fell back, as she finally gave into death.

Sighing, Kaylie laid the girl’s body down on the floor, closing her eyes, before getting to her feet and calling out to Sharon, wanting to let her know what they were dealing with, yet again.

“In addition to the murder of Jason Langley last night, everyone now has to deal with the murder of Elissa Montgomery, a newcomer to our town. Elissa and her family moved to this town not too long after the Bayville killers were caught, but now it seems that we have a new set of killers to deal with. That’s right people, there are now two killers. The police still have no idea who the killers are. But it seems that the mother of Michelle Gray hired two of the best investigators in the country to come to our little town and investigate the murders that have taken place in the last two weeks. This is Trent Hunter, signing off from the site of the recent murder.” Trent waited for the signal, before sighing and wiping his hand across his forehead, glad to have the broadcast over. It was brutal, having to go through a broadcast without an already prepared speech at hand. He hated doing that, but it couldn’t be helped in his line of work.

Sighing, he saw the two investigators he had been talking about on the air and grinned, walking over to them after tossing his microphone to one of the camera guys. Seeing that they were about to leave, Trent broke into a slight run, calling, “Investigators! Can I ask you a few more questions?”

Seeing them look back at him and sigh, he grinned, stopping in front of them. Smiling, he nodded, saying, “I’m glad that you’re letting me ask you a few more questions, investigators.”

Scowling, Kaylie growled out, “What makes you think we’re going to answer any more of your second rate questions, Hunter? The only reason we stopped, was to tell you that if you ask us anymore questions, we’ll knock you out, or at least I will. I don’t know about my friend!”

Startled, Trent didn’t even notice the two of them walk off. He didn’t notice that they were gone until they had their car started up and were pulling away from the pizza place, the scene of the crime. Frowning, Trent stomped back to his own car, getting in and going home, looking forward to a good nights sleep.

The next day, all was definitely not going good at the police station. There had been two more killings since the murder of Mark, and each time a note had been left for the police. Sighing, Stephanie picked up the two notes that she had been left by the killer and opened them, only just now getting to read them.

First she opened the one that had been left with Jason’s body and read it aloud.

“ ‘Hello again. I see you finally found Jason. Or what’s left of Jason anyway. I bet you want to know why I killed Jason, right? Well, I’ll let you know. I really can’t abide by people who hurt others’ emotions, and that’s what Jason did. He hurt Michelle’s emotions. I really couldn’t stand to let her be in pain like that without making someone pay. And since I know Michelle was a friend of both Laurel and Dominique, I thought that Jason should pay for hurting her. And just to let you know, you won’t win. You will not catch me or even find out who I am. Until next time.’”

Sighing, Stephanie ran her fingers through her short hair, before reaching for the other sealed envelope and carefully opening it. Taking out the folded piece of paper, she opened it, and began to read it aloud.

“ ‘You seem to be hearing a lot from me lately. I guess that can’t be helped though. I’ll just come out and tell you the two things you probably want to know. One, the most important in my eyes, is that I have been joined by a friend. She told me that she has already gotten a letter to you, expressing that she would be joining me and I just wanted to let you know that she has joined me, and that our relationship is working out perfectly. The second thing I wanted to let you know, was the reason Elissa Montgomery was killed. She was the reason that Michelle’s feelings were hurt. She and Jason had been seeing each other behind Michelle’s back for over two months and so she had to pay with her life. It was as simple as that. I’ll leave you to your thoughts. Until next time.’”

Cursing, Stephanie pushed herself to her feet and carefully placed the envelopes and letters back into their separate plastic bags before bringing them out to Trinity and telling her to get them down to forensics to be checked over for any fingerprints or any other sign of evidence. That done, she went back into her office and slammed the door behind her.

Four teens were walking along the road, heading for the bowling alley, when the two guys in the group spotted the junkyard and grinned at each other. Grabbing the girls’ arms, they pulled them towards the entrance to the junkyard, saying, “C’mon! We wanna check out the cars!”

Rolling her eyes, Chastity Carter, girlfriend to Lucas Bryant, one of the guys in the group, ducked through the partially open gate, holding it open for her friends, Alicia Hunt and Harry Quinn. When they were through the gate, Chastity let it drop back into place, running after her boyfriend.

As Chastity ran after Lucas, Alicia turned to Harry and grinned, rolling her eyes, saying, “Let’s give them time alone, shall we?”

Nodding, Harry grinned, saying, “Fine by me.”

As Chastity caught up with Lucas, she laughed, exclaiming, “I’ll never understand why you like coming here as much as you do!”

Grinning down at his girlfriend, Lucas laughed, saying, “I just like exploring old cars.”

Rolling her eyes, Chastity grinned and said, “I know you like old cars.”

The two of them could only watch as Chastity and Lucas laughed together. Turning to the male, the female frowned, saying, “A monster like him doesn’t deserve to have a girlfriend. I say that we take her out too, along with him. And I have the perfect way to kill them.”

After saying this, she pulled out a gun, along with a silencer, and began to screw it onto the barrel of the gun. As she was doing this, she motioned to the huge car compactor that stood near them, saying, “I have a plan.”

Nodding, the male said, “Lead on. Just let me know what to do.”

Nodding, the female stood silently and broke into a silent run, heading straight for Chastity.

Grinning darkly, the male followed his female counterpart, thanking whoever had lead her to him.

Just as Chastity was about to open her mouth to say something, an arm came around her throat and dragged her away from Lucas. She started to struggle, but stopped immediately, feeling the cold press of iron against her temple. Turning frightened eyes to her boyfriend, she saw his look of shocked surprised and a look of equal shock and surprise appeared on her face as she saw the guy appear behind Lucas and heard the voice in her ear.

“Well, well, well! Look what we have here! Two lovers on a stroll? Or on their way to die?” the female holding the gun asked, her arm tightening around Chastity’s neck.

Tossing his arm around Lucas’s shoulder, the male grinned nastily, asking, “Are you going to co-operate with us, or will the girl die as well?”

Glaring at the male, Lucas shrugged off the arm from around his shoulder, saying, “I’ll co-operate with your fucking game!”

Near tears, Chastity gasped out, “Why are you doing this!? What did we ever do to you?”

Glaring at Chastity, the male started to drag Lucas towards the car compactor, saying, “It’s not what you did to us, its what your boyfriend here did to Alex and Craig!”

Glaring, Lucas growled out, “This is all because of those two faggots?! You two gotta be crazy! Well, I know that bitch over there is crazy! She’s gotta be!”

“Don’t talk about her that way!” the male growled, before pushing Lucas towards the platform of the car compactor, saying, “Get your fucking ass up there! And don’t try anything funny, or my friend will kill your girlfriend!”

Grumbling, Lucas climbed to the top of the platform, calling down, “You’ll never get away, you know that, don’t you!?”

Grinning, the male picked up the box that was hanging next to the compactor, and pushed the ‘on’ button, watching as the compactor slowly began to close in on Lucas. When the two sides were actually touching Lucas, it became a very slow and painful death, as the sounds of crushing bones and agonizing moans and screams filled the air.

By now, the female had pulled Chastity around so that she could witness the death of her boyfriend and so that her boyfriend could see Chastity. Grinning, the female lifted the gun and pressed it to Chastity’s heart, seeing Lucas’s eyes widen in the realization of what was about to happen, right before the female pulled the trigger on the gun, causing the bullet to go straight into Chastity’s chest and hit her heart, killing her instantly, right before Lucas died.

Turning to the male, the female smiled darkly, before saying, “I guess we had better go get the other two, because I’m sure that they heard Lucas’s screams.”

Nodding, the male motioned for the female to follow him, an excited grin on his face.

Harry’s head whipped around when he heard Lucas scream and, grabbing Alicia’s arm, started to run for the source of the scream, not even stopping to think remember that there was supposed to be two killers on the loose.

He had just rounded a corner, pulling Alicia behind him, when he came face to face with the barrel of a gun, and stopped abruptly, causing Alicia to smack right into him, causing him to stumble. His eyes leaving the gun, he glanced at the female holding the gun and gasped in shock, causing her to chuckle, and say, “That’s the reaction that Lucas and Chastity had before we killed him.”

Suddenly, Harry heard a scream and Alicia’s arm was pulled from his grasp as she was pulled to stand in front of Harry, the arm of a very familiar guy held tightly around her neck. As he watched tears stream down his friends face, Harry growled and demanded, “What do you want with us? What did you do to Lucas and Chastity!?”

Laughing, the female smiled darkly at him, before saying, “Why, we killed your two friends of course. And we’re going to do the same to you!”

With those words, the female pulled the trigger of the gun, causing Harry to drop to the ground, dead with a bullet to the head. As the female chuckled, she turned to Alicia, who was being held by the male, and watched and she tried to get free, tried to run to her best friend, tears streaming down her face.

Chuckling, the male let Alicia go, and she ran towards Harry, dropping to her knees and pulling his head into her lap, crying the entire time. When she finally turned her tear filled, accusing eyes to the two that stood before her, she whispered, “How could you!? I thought that you were our friends!?”

“We have never been friends of yours! Never!” With that, the female lifted the gun, and shot it, hitting Alicia in the heart, killing her the same way that she had killed Chastity.

Hiding the gun in the pocket of her jacket, the female turned to the male, and asked, “Let me guess, you want to go get Stephanie now, don’t you?”

Nodding, the male glared, saying, “It is time that she paid for killing Laurel and Dominique. Her time has come.”

Nodding, the female grinned darkly, saying, “I guess that the time has come then. Let’s go then.”

With that, the two of them sprinted off, climbing into a black convertible, and heading for the police station to take care of some unfinished business.

They pulled to a stop in front of the police station, and got out of the car, not bothering to shut it off, since they wouldn’t be in the police station for long. Grinning at each other, they walked up the stairs. As they entered through the double doors, they looked at each other, pulling out a gun each and shooting Trinity Quick with twice, once in the heart and once between the eyes. The shooting of the guns caused Stephanie to come bolting out of her office, only to jolt to a stop as she found two guns pointed at her, causing her to step back in shock.

“Hello Stephanie! How nice to finally meet you face to face! I feel like we know each other so well,” the male said softly, menacingly, as he took a step towards Stephanie.

“How nice to see you again, Stephanie. I haven’t forgotten how you ‘helped’ me a few months ago,” the female stated, smiling.

Eyes wide, Stephanie gasped, “It can’t be you! Why?!”

shift to different characters

“I wonder what evidence Stephanie has and if she’ll actually let us look at it this time?” Kaylie asked, rolling her eyes.

“You never know. But she does have the right to withhold evidence, since this is her territory,” Sharon said, chuckling. Just as she was about to continue, they both heard a gun go off from inside the police station and they dropped to their knees, pulling out their guns at the same time. Glancing at each other, they got to their feet and ran silently up the stairs, pushing the doors open silently and sticking their heads in, careful not to open the doors to wide in case they squeaked.

The first thing they saw when they looked, was the shocked look on Stephanie’s face and then they noticed two people off to the side, each of them holding a gun that was pointed at Stephanie. As they both got a good look at the two people, they turned to each other, and mouthed, “Michael Greyson!? Michelle Gray!?”

As they turned their attention back to the two killers, their eyes went cold, and hard. Looking at each other briefly, they nodded, before pushing open the doors with a loud crash, startling Michelle and Michael, causing their attention to be distracted from what they were doing, letting Kaylie and Sharon get off a shot each. But that was all that was needed. Each shot pierced the heart of both Michelle and Michael, causing them to fall to the floor, dropping their guns on the way down.

Not even going to check to see if they were dead, Kaylie and Sharon ran to Stephanie and helped her to a chair to sit down, as she said, almost to herself, “I didn’t even think about it being those two. I never even questioned them, thinking that Michelle wouldn’t be able to handle remembering what almost happened to her, and not even thinking about Michael at all. He was such a quiet person.”

Sighing, Kaylie placed her hand on Stephanie’s shoulder and said, “You never know what kind of people can make a killer. Anyone can become a killer, that’s the thing. You can never tell.”

Sighing, Sharon turned woeful eyes to Kaylie and asked, “Do you think we’ll still be paid, since we let Michelle get killed?”

Chuckling, Kaylie shook her head, saying, “Probably not, Sharon. Probably not.”

The End

A/N: I hope that you like the sequal to Small Town Terror. Just to let you know, I'm working on one final piece in the trilogy, which brings us back to the beginning, to explain how Laurel got started with all this. I hope that you'll all read that one too, when I get it posted. Please, feel free to review.
