I'm missing assignments

I swear that they're done

He gave me some credit

But only for one

Or redo it I'm afraid

I put so much work into it

Now look how I'm repaid

I checked in my book

I checked in my keeper

But yet it evades me

Couldn't be any sneakier

I went to my locker

To search for it there

But alas, of science papers

My locker was bare

I trekked back up the hall

To report what I had found

That my missing assignment

Was nowhere around

I sat there and pondered

With my cheek on my fist

I knew I had done it

But paperless I sit

I could picture the paper

The writing in deep blue

The stars next to the questions

Since I mark what I do

I fit it all on one paper

Though the assignment was long

And after all that work

The paper was gone

Gone off on vacation

Like my socks and my keys

Never to return to me
