Summary: You’re basic stupid plot. A werewolf, veela, and vampire all looking for their mates decide to make a bet to get the whole ‘find-the-right-one’ thing done quicker.

The Veela, the Vampire, and the Werewolf:

The Bet

“We’ll make it a bet!” The vampire shouted to his friends.

“You can’t be serious?” His werewolf friend commented gloomily.

“I’m quite serious, my friend. We’ve all been moping over our dilemmas for a great deal of time now and we need to get over them quickly! We need to find our mates!” The vampire insisted, clenching his fist in frustration.

“I’m telling you, DJ.” The werewolf growled. “This will never work! Randomly seducing and fucking people every night until we each find our mates…? Where do you come up with this shit?”

“I don’t know, Ben.” Their female veela companion added as she stroked her chin with amusement. “Darren’s idea isn’t too farfetched.” She commented.

“You can’t honestly be considering this?!” Ben, the werewolf, snapped as he looked at her in disbelief.

“I can and I am. You should be too, Ben.” She encouraged as she stared sadly at her feral childhood friend. “Ben, you’ve been searching for your Destined for nearly thirty years! Three decades! What’s there to lose by going a bit outside the box and trying this? Honestly, how can it hurt you at all? You meet a few potentials, decide whether they’re worthy, give it a try, and if not then you move on and forget that person. We’re bound to all find our destined eventually.”

“Easy for you to say, Cheryl.” He groaned back to her. “You’re a veela. You and your mate are becoming like magnets after all this time. You’ll be drawn to whomever it is. Besides, you’ll know your mate by smell.” He said begrudgingly.

“So will you!” Both of his friends insisted in unison.

“Look.” DJ glared at his rugged werewolf friend. “This is going to be most difficult for me if anyone.” He glanced at either of them for an argument. “I can’t tell my mate by smell. I’m attracted to everything with blood in it. I’ll have to taste each and every one of the people I meet before I can determine who is who. At least you both can judge scent first and eliminate a bunch of targets before you even say hello.” He crossed his arms stubbornly. “This is for all of us.” He glared at them both as they stared, silent. The pub around them was engorged with noise and the hubbub of daily drunkards and humans. “I’m going to set guidelines, just so none of us slack in our search.” He glared at Ben pointedly. “This is important.”

Ben nodded in his consent. “Yes, alright.” He conceded.

“Okay, now. Four catches a night at least.” He ordered. Ben’s eyes widened, but he sighed in consent.

“Fine.” He growled.

“That sounds good.” Cheryl nodded a few times, locking her eyes with DJ’s.

“We’ll also need proof to bring back here, so it isn’t all brag and no show.” He whispered to them gruffly.

“What kind of proof?” Ben wondered, his mouth slightly agape as his heart continued to race. What would he have to do now?

“Condoms filled with whomever’s stuff.” He replied coolly.

Ben rubbed his brow tiredly. He was too old for this stuff. “Someone else’s or mine?” He asked grumpily.

DJ was glad he was getting back into the conversation.

“Either. Doesn’t matter, but you know you can’t fake it. There’s a difference between making yourself come or having someone else do it.” He warned as he handed each friend a small paper bag.

Ben quickly took his bag and shoved it into his coat pocket.

“You guys both suck!” He snapped, not really meaning it as he stood and turned to leave.

“It’s five o’clock now, Ben. You have until six tomorrow morning to get back here with proof. We’ll be hear by five.” DJ called after him. The werewolf paused in his steps, then continued walking.

He knew he would have to be prompt for his sun-fearing friend to have enough time to submerge into his coffin for another day of sleep.

He couldn’t really say why all of them had become friends. He and Cheryl had been friends since childhood and he couldn’t for the life of him understand why she’d stayed with him after he had been bitten by that werewolf. She didn’t show him pity at all. She merely kept him company and kissed his bruises to make him feel better. They had grown up with a sibling-relationship and until they turned fifteen they had been completely alone. One day soon after that, though, DJ had run into them, and nearly fallen over at the sight of Cheryl’s beautiful face. She, of course, hadn’t been too impressed, but Ben had been quite flattered when he outright told them that they were both quite a gorgeous couple. Their relationship had kicked off from there, somewhat strenuously at first, but it slowly developed into something more powerful, that would never break, between them.

“Do you think he’ll be alright?” Cheryl asked her vampire companion softly. She did worry greatly for her feral friend.

“Do you have any idea how much I’ve been thinking about this? I can deal with eternity without a mate. Maybe in another hundred years or so I’ll search out someone, but that poor pup can’t go another five years without a lover. He needs to find his mate or he’ll kill himself with sadness…”
