More Things
Life
A new beginning
Seemingly endless
That’s what I like
Death
The end
Inescapable finish
It scares me
Stories
A new world
A different life
So unlike my own
War
People entrapped,
Tortured and killed
It makes me quiver
Fire
The burning of the old
To bring in the new
Warm and refreshing
Staring
Staring at me
I’m not sure what’s wrong
They won’t look away
Friends
Together through everything
Challenging the odds
Making it count
Spiders
Eight legs for crawling
Crawling over my face
Making me scream
Black
My favourite clothes
My best friend’s hair
My favourite colour
Mistakes
Big red rings around my words
Questions when they don’t understand
Pages getting bleached by tears
Parties and music
Together as one
Everyone dancing
I like this; it’s fun
New schools
Each bigger than the last
They won’t let me fit in
I wish I could go back
Riding my bike
Through rain and storms
Lightning lighting up the pavement
My hair getting wet
Being wrong
Having my words corrected
Never comprehending
I want to be left alone
Magic and mystery
Things that scare me
Books to read late at night
Ghosts and ghouls to make me scream
Moving
Moving house
Moving school
Being the ‘new kid’ again
Animals
Small or big
Pawed or clawed
As long as there’s less than eight legs
Mobile phones
Going off all the time
Annoying me immensely
They should be blown up
Chocolate
Chocolate biscuits,
Bars and cakes
All for me and nobody else
Homework
Taking up my free time
I can’t do it anyway
I can already see my detention
Concerts
Singing and dancing
Joining in or watching
And even more friends with my friends
New people
Making their own judgements
Before they even know me
They don’t even give me a chance
Love
Unrivalled and unbreakable
Mixed with my blood
I both love it and hate it
The original line for this stanza was actually ‘pain’, and unbreakable was ‘unbeatable’. I changed it at last moment because I didn’t want my teachers and class seeing that version. Even back then I had just enough sense to think about some of my words.
