The Things that Distract Me From Writing

Why, once the pen is in my head,
Won’t the ideas that were there a moment ago
Never come out onto the page?
I’ve tried everything; bribes and trickery,
Trips to the seaside, a party or a meal,.
I’ve even tried group therapy, but my split personality refused to go.
I smell sick here beneath my nose
But I can’t remember being sick. Sometimes I can still smell onions and garlic
Weeks after I’ve cooked.
This is my favourite song; I have to sing along,
And the next one is a good one, but I don’t think I have the words.
I think I’ll read a book, something silly; ‘The Far Side’ is always good,
Oh, but I’ve not finished ‘Dragons of Winter Night yet, better read that.
Hey! I’ve just had a great idea for a picture, wonder if I can draw it.
No, I’ll just do more faces instead. Hey look, here’s one I haven’t coloured, let’s do that instead.
Now how about that story? Oh, I’ve got a great idea! I’ll write about a guy with writer’s block.
This is how I get my ideas.
