Characters (in approximate order of appearance):
Morghan Davis: MC #1; human, dark curly hair, green eyes, medium height (5’5ish) and lean, one jagged scar upon her left forearm. 24 or 25 years old; works at a pharmaceutical company in downtown NYC; has a B.S. in something and desires to go for her Ph.D. but has neither the time nor the money for it. No siblings; father: dead; mother: disappeared or dead; no current love interests.
Raphael: Morghan’s abusive ex-boyfriend; gave her the scar on her arm the night she left him by throwing her into a mirror; human, blonde, with dark eyes, taller and thick-set, maybe 27 at the oldest; alcoholic, abusive, possessive, and bent on finding Morghan again.
Madame Mihoukatani: very short older woman with silver hair and dark gray eyes, middle eastern in appearance, possibly; runs a coffee shop in NYC; is actually a faerie (see Definitions) and a sorceress (profession); in charge of brewing a potion of power.
Bladewing: human, thin, shorter man with black hair and darker eyes (brown or hazel); once a great thief who wandered the city of Vanya, he is now in the employment of Shavara Minos to first steal the potion and then later to kidnap Morghan; he owns an amulet that, while infused with Shavara’s power, can turn him into a dragon with mirrored scales.
Listhan Avres: MC #2; faerie, tall (6’1, possibly); no older than his early thirties (33) possibly younger (in appearance), broad shoulders but generally lean, muscular, long, dark blonde hair; one black eye, one blue eye. He has two scars along his back which contain his wings(see Definitions) (ebony feathered wings like an angel’s); wings can be revealed or hidden at will. No siblings; parents both dead; used to serve Shavara Minos until Shavara Minos tried to steal all of his magic power and get him banished (see Definitions); saved by Ceolene, whom he now serves.
Ceolene: faerie, female, medium to tall in height, silver grey hair and myriad changing eyes; she is the queen of the faeries, banished after battling with and exiling Chaos; her followers hope to bring her back into existence with the aid of a potion of power.
Chaos: faerie, male, medium in height, long dark brown hair and strangely deep black eyes; he spoke out against Ceolene’s methods of rule and control, and fought back when she tried to exile him, almost becoming banished himself; his power was not strong enough when he faced her, however, and so she succeeded in exiling him from their planet to the planet Earth.
Shavara Minos: faerie, male, shorter than bladewing, closely-cropped yellow blonde hair and bright golden eyes; hopes to contend with Ceolene and become king of the faeries but does not yet quite have the power; tried to strip Listhan of his power while he served him and almost caused him to be banished; cruel, self-serving, greedy; controls Bladewing; seeks to gain the potion.
Other random, relatively unimportant characters who have shown up so far:
Evirik Windseer: a faerie, male, guardian of the rainbow bridge
Toma: human, male, leader of a pack of mercenaries.
Darok ist Navamor: human, male, king of ist Vaniad, currently allied with the faeries
Sigatel: human, male; one of a pair of twin healers, mute, cannot lie.
Movik: human, male, other of the pair of twin healers. (Not mute, and Can lie)
Abol Thibsnark: faerie, male; Listhan’s partner for the magic needed to revive Ceolene.
Various Faeries: faeries of the upper council (which rule the faeries, of which Ceolene is the head); Mihnol, Varys, Shorka, Xethro, and others.
Definitions:
Faerie: a race somewhat like humans in appearance, except for perhaps slightly higher cheekbones; the major difference between the two is that faeries possess magic in a variety of forms.
Banished: A faerie cannot exist without magic. When faeries become drained of their powers to an extreme extent, they fall unconscious. While they are unconscious they see themselves as teetering at the brink of a cliff, and if they do not recover magic within a short amount of time, they plummet from this cliff and land in a world of grey mist. When this happens their bodies fade away, and their minds wander through the grey mist until somehow (through a spell or the aid of other faeries) they regain some power; when this happens they must climb a steep incline out of the mist until they reach the point at which they had previously teetered, where, if the power is sufficient, they emerge from the mist, become substantial once again, and reawaken from their coma
Magic types: The borders between each type of magic are very indistinct; crossover is possible. As in, a faerie could possess and use several different types of magic.
Mage: pure magic; a sort of filmy light used with spoken word and active gesture, or, if it is very clear, a thought (it must be VERY clear…. With none of the jumble of activity that normal thought is accompanied by).
Wizard: also a form of pure magic, but it must be directed by a wand or a staff; without the aid of which, the wizard is generally useless.
Sorcerer: a more subtle form of magic; though not visible or necessarily tangible, sorcerers create potions and brews that can have the same effect as magic; for example, a sorcerer could not cast a fireball spell, but they could make a fireball-creating potion.
Witch/Warlock: magic is borrowed from animal familiars or from the environment; it can be used for a brief time and then is drained away; in this time a witch/warlock can cast a spell or brew a potion, and the effects will remain.
Wings: When a faerie is teetering on the edge of the mental cliff just before becoming banished, their wings appear in an effort to save them from the fall into the world of grey mist; even if they fall from the cliff, they can hover for sometime at the necessary height for recovery until they become to weary and can no longer sustain flight. Faeries that return from being banished retain the use of their wings and can hide and unveil them at will; faeries that have never been banished cannot use their wings.
Planets: There are two planets that co-exist in mutual time and space but take two different paths in history. The first is our Earth, also called Mven Terr; the second is the planet upon which the faeries reside alongside a relatively medieval/renaissance human society, called Mvon Terr.
Basic plot outline up until this point:
Morghan wakes up, breaks her coffee maker, and wanders out into the big city of New York trying to find caffeine. She happens across a little coffee shop called Madame Mihoukatani’s. While inside she accidentally takes somebody else’s rather special drink. The man whose drink she has, Bladewing, chases her, tries to steal the drink from her, and ends up spilling it all over her.
It doesn’t smell like coffee, and soon Morghan finds a strange portal made of what looks like clearish red jello in a back alley. While she is contemplating it, Bladewing passes through the portal in the form of a dragon. Morghan’s curiosity overcomes her good sense and she too goes through the portal, only to be sucked up by the barrier between worlds and swept away on a great wind.
Meanwhile, back at Madame Mihoukatani’s, another character, Listhan Avres, comes in and requests the special drink and finds out from the sorceress that the special drink, the potion, has already been taken care of. He takes the image of Bladewing from her mind and follows the thief through the portal, rescuing Morghan from the wind along the way.
When Morghan wakes up, Listhan explains to her everything about the faeries, Chaos, and Ceolene, and the potion, which she accidentally picked up. Upon hearing that the potion spilled on her rather than was stolen, he is overjoyed and asks her to accompany him to the city of ist Vanya, where he will draw the potion out of her. She agrees.
Meanwhile, Bladewing reports in to the faerie he is serving, Shavara Minos; both men make plans to capture Morghan so they can draw out the potion for their own use.
Morghan and Listhan travel through perilous realms, over a Rainbow Bridge, through a pine forest, and over a swamp by riding a wind, getting chased by Bladewing, attacked by scyriths (sort of like alligators; no legs, rather snakelike, and vicious), and harassed by a band of mercenaries along the way; and in the process Listhan gets his arm broken, while both characters start questioning their tormented pasts.
While running from the mercenaries they encounter the party that was sent by the human king, Darok ist Navamor, to accompany them. They travel to the city, where the peoples’ jealousy and mistrust of Listhan shows clearly.
Morghan is set up in a room near Listhan’s until the eclipse, when the potion will be drawn out of her; however she has shown signs of having absorbed the potion, so it is unclear whether or not the potion will be able to be drawn out of her. She meets Abol Thibsnark, Listhan’s partner in the proceedings. His family was killed during the war between Ceolene and Chaos; since she is from the lands where Chaos was banished to, he blames her for his family’s death and does not trust her.
