One afternoon Audry sought out Junnie. He found him running down the hall towards the library. “Junnie!” Audry called, “Wait! Stop!”
Junnie skidded to a halt and spun around to see who called him name. Audry…he thought sadly. Audry ran to the burnet that stood there skeptically. “Junnie, we need to talk,”
“About…what?” Junnie asked innocently, masking the heartbreaking pang in his voice.
“About that kiss, Junnie. I don’t know whether to ask you out or apologize,” Audry confessed. Junnie smiled, but didn’t respond. He just stood there gaping at the linoleum floor, all his responses escaping his mind. “I mean…um…” Audry scratched his arm nervously, “are you gonna answer me?”
“Audry…I-I…I have a boyfriend,”
“Oh, I see,”
Junnie bit his bottom lip as he tried to avoid the disappointment on Audry’s face. “Do you love him?” Audry blurted out.
“Excuse me, that’s a rude question don’t you think?”
“Yeah, but it’s simple. Just answer me!”
“I did-I do!” Junnie stuttered, looking away from the red head.
“You did, you do which one is it!”
“He gave me a ring, Audry!” Junnie blurted out, pulling the gold band off the chain around his neck. “When he gave me that ring, I really did love him. And, I loved him for years. I still loved him after we moved here, but…with him not being here, it just got easier and easier to forget him,”
Both of them looked away from the other. Audry closed his eyes and turned his back on Junnie. “Stay with him, Junnie. You’ll regret it if you don’t,” Audry whispered before walking away.
Junnie watched as Audry walked away. I’m sorry, Audry…I want…to…be…with you…
