The light bounced gently off the face of the water, creating an endearing glow. The boy moved closer to it, drawn to the attractive shine. He peered into the cool water, watching his wavering reflection bounce with the ripple of the waves. As he watched, the sky started to darken with a great speed. A look of disappointment grew on his face, as the shine and his reflection began to fade. He turned his back to leave, when a voice suddenly called witha strong sense of urgency.
"Repent," the deep voice called. It echoed with a rumbling sound through the sky. The great voice resonated in his head and his heart skipped a beat. He jumped back and turned to face the water. The sound of his heartbeat pound in his ears as he saw a face lying just beneath the surface. It glowed, sending out light from the water, magnifying its horrific existence. The face boar an expression of a deep fear, wrought with remorse and pain.
"What are you?" he questioned, his voice quiet and quivering.
"Repent!" the head cried desperately, ignoring his remark.
"I don't understand," the boy whispered. As soon as he uttered the final syllable, a complete darkness closed in on him. The extreme darkness forced a sharp pain in his eyes, and he fell to the ground. He tried closing his eyelids, but was unsure whether he could at all. It was just as dark when he presumed the eyes were open. He felt the ground beneath him with a hand, but again he was uncertain if there really was a ground there. In this state of existence, it seemed that certainty was impossible. All he thought he knew about reality suddenly became contorted.
"Hello?" a voice called in the distance. Although he could not be sure whether this sound was real or his mind had created it, he gave an answer all the same.
"Hello?" he called. On hearing the sound, it was a replication of the first. But he felt this voice escape from his mouth, so how could this be, that the voice was not his? Gripped by such a force of confusion, tears began to form in his eyes.
"Where the hell am I?" he screamed, allowing tears to run down his face. He raised his hands and used them to wipe his face. The heat of his flesh relaxed him slightly. At least it proved he still existed in physical form. He was not just a part of the darkness. Pulling his hands from his face, he stared in disbelief as their form became obvious to him. He could see; he began to laugh. The sharp sound reverberated demonically in the darkness. But it cut short. As the form of the palms became more obvious to him, he saw deep cuts into his skin, some revealing the bone underneath. It appeared as though the tears had burned through his flesh.
"You're in hell, my dear," a voice crooned in his ear, again taking on the same voice. What the boy didn't realise was that he said it himself.
