Chapter One- In the Way

Lily took a deep breath, and look around the private high school; Royally Talented, she had been accepted into. It's supposed to be an elite high school, hard to get in and for rich and smart students. But by the looks of it, none of them look smart. In fact, Lily knows that many of the students got in because of their money.

At least this place is beautiful! Lily thought happily, taking in the amazing view all around her. It's in the urban area of New York, and quite a few short hours to enter New York City. It's so different from Manhattan, NYC...

"Ms. Crystal?" A voice snapped into her thoughts. Lily, startled, turned around; her light brown hair swished across the morning air and put on her sweetest smile.

"Yes?" Lily said to the lady. The lady, in a gray lady suit, her hair into a neat bun, looks about middle age. Nice, but stern. Lily thought to herself, after all her experiences with teachers.

"I am Professor Mirren, or you could say Olivia Mirren. I'll lead you to your dorm room. Don't worry about your luggage at the Main Office, because I took charge and got them taken to your room already." The lady said with a kind smile.

"Thank you Professor!” Lily exclaimed sincerely, and follows the lady through the maze of the high school.

This high school is like castle. No, it's just like an university campus! Lily thought with wonder. Trees scattered across the green yard. Road paved across the yard randomly, thing enough for two to walk pass at the same time. Tall buildings, ancient structures, wide habitations, long dwellings and huge areas of gathering spaces which are almost filled up are paste in every single room in this huge campus area.

"Well! I've heard that you won full scholarship for this high school! You are one of the first in 20 years! That's really good! You even got an extra thousand each semester just to make you come here!" Professor Mirren said excitedly.

Lily grinned and shyly added, "Well, it wasn't that hard. It's kind of fun too, because of the audition for extra classes!"

"Fun?!" Professor Mirren commented incredulously. "What would the students do when they heard that?" Lily just shook her head and smile.

"Oh, by the way, they were here last year, because Royally Talented starts at 8th grade. Weird. But just to warn you, they know almost each other in the school!" The Professor hinted. And before Lily could question more, another Professor came yelling.

"Olivia! Olivia Mirren! The Knight's are here! Harold and Serena Knights! Do you know what that means?" The man yelled, his face crazy with happiness.

"Yeah," Professor Mirren said, then murmured softly that only Lily could hear, "they're here to donate more money to keep Jay and his friends in this school."

Lily laugh, a small laugh, but it still caused the angry man to turn his attention at her. The man smiled as he saw her, then a thoughtful expression across his face, and finally; triumph.

Uh-oh. I have a bad feeling about this. Lily thought worriedly. And indeed, she will be correct. But she didn't know that yet, because that will happen tomorrow.

"Ah! My dear Lily Crystal! So! What do you think about this school so far?" It is the Principle of the Royally Talented. He personally interviewed her! And he was the one who offered full scholarship to her!

"Mr. Dashwood, sir. This is the most beautiful school I've ever seen!" Lily exclaimed truthfully. And the Principle looked so proud that he's about to burst.

"Thank you Lily. I hope you enjoy this place. You just simply must join the orchestra and chorus. And even the math team and newspaper group. You are just… royally talented." The Principle finished proudly, just as a couple came up.

"John Dashwood! Where were you? We have...uh...some compromising to do!" The male one said. And Lily concluded from what the Professor and Principle's face that it is the Knight's.

"Oh! The best person of the time! Harold Knight! I'm there and here. Everywhere! But you just have to meet my star student! Lily Crystal!" Mr. Dashwood introduced, pointed toward Lily.

"Crystal? I've never heard of a Crystal in the elite society!" Serena Knight, pretty in her blonde straight hair and deep blue eyes, certainly a lady with natural blonde beauty, said questioning.

"Ahh... This is the surprising part! Lily Crystal is not from the elite society!" Mr. Dashwood exclaimed happily.

"What!? She's not?!" Harold Knight yipped, "but... This is a elite school, correct?" Harold, handsome with his gray eyes and untamable dark brown hair, almost black, looks like a classical model.

"Of course! But she past the exam with perfect scores, she played the violin, flute and piano perfectly. She has a beautiful voice. Plus she's smart in every subject! This is the Royally Talented. And she's talented. So talented that it's like royalty!" Mr. Dashwood cried out.

"May I cut in?" A voice said coolly, and Professor Mirren's face turned sour.

"Jay! What a pleasure it is to see you! What brings you here all of a sudden?" Professor Mirren said angrily, but faking sweetness as well. Jay ignored her. And looked at Lily closely.

Lily took in his looks. And she had to admit he's what she expected. After meeting his parent, he got the good looks of both the parent. Jay got his father's dark brown hair with is almost black and untamable. Yet he has his mother's deep endless blue eyes. He also have a body of a athletic, lean.

Over-confident, proud, stubborn and arrogant. Lily thought with humor of Jay. Lily stared back at him; her green eyes sparkled with determination.

They're like emeralds! Jay wondered dreamily, but then broke off the contact. Using his trademark grin, Jay expected Lily to swoon like other girls. But nothing happened, she just rolled her eyes!

His attitude of her changed. No one. No GIRLS had ever never fall for that. How dare her! Jay thought angrily, his pride busted. Just wait and see, girl. Because I'll make you pay when I find your weakness.

"Lily. That's a beautiful name. C'mon. I'll take you to your dorm! It's in the Silver Tower, correct?" Jay asked. And Professor Mirren nodded, her lips tight. But there's nothing she could do. Jay picked up Lily's bags and started along the path. Lily hurried to catch up.

What an evil guy. Thinks he's so good. Lily murmured to herself, yet put on her smile.

"Lily Crystal. You are a pretty girl. What family lines are you from?" Jay flirted, as he looked down at the beautiful girl.

According to Jay's view. Lily is the innocent girl ready to follow him like a puppy.

"Jay Knight. You are a dumb guy. How much did your parent pay to get you in?" Lily retorted back. Jay gave a wink and smile.

"That’s for me to know and you to wonder! And of course, Crystal isn't from any rich family. Not that I know of. What did you do to convince our dear headmaster to accept you?" Jay asked slyly, as they enter a tall building. Pasting the guard, they enter the elevators.

"What I did is to get the perfect score in the exam. And I tried out for almost every clubs/teams/classes you have and got in to every single one." Lily said softly, her eyes downcast.

"Ah... No. This can't be happening! A golden girl! Coming to this school!” Jay exclaimed happily. Then they reach the dorm room of Lily's. Lily grabbed her keys and opened the door. Entering, and leaving no space for Jay to follow, she turned and stared at Jay hard.

"Yes. I'm the golden girl. And don't expect me to fall for your plans. I'm here to be the golden one, and you can't be in the way.” Lily said stubbornly, and slammed the door on his face.

Jay took there, angry and surprised. Oh! That's exactly what I'll be doing. Standing in your way. Watch out my lily-flower. Cuz Jay is here!

As Jay walked back to the popular group's hangout area, he continued planning how to ruin Lily's life.

Yet somehow, he couldn't forget Lily's bright sparkling emerald eyes, her cute slightly tilted nose, the smooth skin with colors from a painting and her beautiful voice.

But Jay pushed the thoughts back. And convinced himself that he's thinking about how to prank Lily.

Lily. You better watch out. I'll be doing what you don't want me to do. I'll be in the way.
