Vindicated Hearts

CHAPTER ONE - Gaud

The moon has barely arose to meet the sky when Edmond locks up his apartment, and goes down the dreary moonlit hallway. The infant moon reflects brightly off his white locks that are kept in a loose pony-tail under a big black top hat. His shoes click on the tile and echo through the foyer. His cane ticking on the surface with ever other long stride.

Adjusting his messenger bag Edmond reaches out for the elevator key-pad feeling over the brail gently. Hitting the 1st floor button, he waits patiently for the door to slide open. Once he's inside he slips on his dark-tinted sunglasses over his terrifyingly green eyes, the glasses sit docilely atop his pale roman nose. The elevator dings monotonously once, twice, then up to six times, the doors open cautiously. Edmond walks out into a quite gaudy-looking lobby. The carpet is a putrid red and yellow pattern, looking closely to something you'd see in an old cheap movie theatre. Edmond makes his way across the unsightly carpet. The door-man, Garret opens the glass door for him. Looking out into the street Edmond says, "Garret, if you see Mr. Simon, please tell him the lights on the 6th floor are still off." Garret nods stupidly and then realizes Edmond can't see him and says yes quickly. Edmond tips his hat in the direction the words came from and continues to walk down the side walk. Taxi's pass by him slowly, try not to splash him with puddle-water. People seem to not be up at this time, just the way Edmond likes it. The less people, the less brutality he would have to encounter, or so he thought.
