Love and The Coward by Sheraya Silverleaf Indigo

My parents could not understand us.

Or I think they wouldn't,

Call me a coward.

I am! I am!

The twist of the sheets.

The bodies beneath.

You and I.

Ma would not understand.

I tell her. I tell her.

She says she does understand me.

Yet, she does not understand,

The fight, the war, the all.

The distance.

The surrender.

The last time.

They don't understand.

The coward.

The families.

The immortality.

Romeo and Juliet.

Are we them?

Twist of the sheets,

Me in your arms.

No, were us.

They don't understand.

Yet I understand.

That's all that matters.

That's all this coward needs to know.
